March 25, 2016 is International Waffle Day! Waffles are so delicious and are such a world wide phenomenon that there are actually two days upon which to celebrate. The celebration of Waffle Day started in Sweden and marked the beginning of Spring. Many U.S. food calendars state that International Waffle Day is celebrated on March 25th. Others waffle and say that it is celebrated on August 24th. Why should you choose just one? Why not celebrate both days!?!
Some of you may be thinking, “why the hype over waffles?”. You see, the waffles created at Walt Disney World Resort, aren’t just plain ol’ waffles. They come in all shapes and sizes and are served in all sorts of ways. To honor this day and to give you the full story, this edition of my Where in Walt Disney World Can I Find? series will focus solely on…you guessed it…waffles and where you can find them.
There’s some basic information that I’d like to give and point out to you before I continue on. Every article in my Where in Walt Disney World Can I Find? series is written with the intent of helping you plan a memorable trip to Walt Disney World Resort whether this may be your first or your tenth trip. The Magical DIStractions team is dedicated to providing our readers with the most accurate and up-to-date information as possible. Walt Disney World is constantly expanding and changing so there is a possibility that some of the exact food items that I speak of in this article may change location or may become a different variation before you visit.
Please note that some of the wording in this article is highlighted in pink. My fellow team members and I write about our experiences, upcoming events and things to do while at Walt Disney World, and a simple click on the highlighted wording will take you to articles written by our team. By using the links, you’ll not only learn “Where in Walt Disney World Can I Find? Waffles!” but you’ll also have access to other valuable information. Information that may be new to you or may remind you of something that you always wanted to see or try.
Let’s see what the “world” has to offer in the way of waffles, shall we?
Where In Walt Disney World Can I Find? Waffles!
Allergy friendly waffles: Walt Disney World recognizes the fact that many of their Guests have specialty dietary requests. By substituting different ingredients and approaches, most Disney chefs, restaurants and quick-service locations can accommodate many common food allergies. “Many Resort restaurants now offer allergy-friendly menus to address these food intolerances—and many are able to accommodate lifestyle requests as well, such as low-fat, low-sodium, no-sugar-added and vegetarian options—often with no advance arrangements!” (Excerpt from the Walt Disney World website) You can find additional information about special dietary needs here.
Two examples of the restaurants that serve these special meals are Be Our Guest in the Magic Kingdom Park and Trattoria al Forno in Disney’s Boardwalk area. The waffles served at Trattoria al Forno are shaped like Mickey and are usually served with Espresso-Mascarpone Cream and choice of Bacon or Chicken Sausage; however, if you have dietary needs, you may ask that they be served without the cream and a different side item.
All the waffles you care to eat: As I said in my Where in Walt Disney World Can I Find? The Table Service Resorts Edition, Walt Disney World Resort recognizes the need for restaurant menus that include something for everyone in the family. For those who want a variety, you will be thrilled to know that the Walt Disney World Resort has plenty of buffets and some of those buffets serve waffles! Not just any waffle but Mickey shaped waffles!
Tusker House in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park and Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort are just two of the many buffets that serve up these delightfully cute Mickey waffles.
Character Waffles: If the Mickey shaped waffles were so cute they made you say “Oh Boy!”, wait until you see the waffles served at ‘Ohana! When you book an advance dining reservation for Best Friends Breakfast featuring Lilo & Stitch, you’ll dine on both Mickey and Stitch waffles while waiting for your meet and greet with Lilo, Stitch and their pals! Your ‘ohana will feast family-style on waffles and other items such as scrambled eggs, Island-style fried potatoes, Hawaiian pork sausages, smoked bacon and a variety of fresh fruits and breads.
Chicken and Waffles: It didn’t take Disney long to pick up on the chicken and waffle food trend and Guests can now find this combo served at many Disney restaurant locations. If you are in the Magic Kingdom Park, stop by Sleepy Hollow for one of their sweet and spicy chicken and waffle sandwiches. Boatwright’s Dining Hall, the table service restaurant at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort, serves up a hearty portion of chicken and waffles that is sure to satisfy your hunger. There is also a chicken and waffle station at the Kirk Franklin Presents Gospel Brunch at House of Blues. You can read the full review here.
Dark Chocolate Waffles: The Dark Chocolate Waffles served at Captain’s Grille at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort are served with Dried Cherry Compote, Espresso-Mascarpone Cream, Chocolate Shavings, and a choice of Bacon or Sausage. After a plate of these, you’ll think that you’ve died and gone to chocolate heaven!

Darth Vader Waffles: Guest, I am your waffle! With the new Star Wars Land coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Guests can now find Darth Vader themed waffles in the Park! The relatively new menu at Backlot Express includes Dark Side Chicken & Waffles which are served with BBQ sauce and maple syrup.

Nutella and Fresh Fruit Waffle: Talk about a winning combination! Who can resist a freshly made waffle slathered with hazelnut chocolate spread and fresh fruit? This sinfully delicious fruit sandwich is served at Sleepy Hollow in the Magic Kingdom Park.
Waffles, waffles, & more waffles: Almost every Disney Restaurant has waffles listed on their breakfast menus. They may be served alone. They may come with sides. They may be mini. They may be the size of your hand. They may even have Disney’s Pop Century Resort logo on them. No matter what category resort you choose to stay in, you’re sure to find the waffle that’s right for you.
Now can you understand the hype about waffles served at Walt Disney World? The ones that I wrote about are only some of those found on the Disney Restaurant menus. Do you have a favorite waffle?
