Nic Deslauriers on Trevor Zegras:
“His attitude is just goofy. We came with a thing, I think, like he legit has a five second mental jam. So you would tell him something, you would tell him something and be pissed at him. Five seconds later, [he’s like] ‘Hey, how's it going?’ But I think for how he plays, it’s the best thing.
But that's one kid that I'm like, if I do that, I can't pull that off. Just coming to the rink and just be goofy and just have a terrible practice. But he does work. When he wants. But he's an unbelievable player.
Before Bob Murray got fired, he came up to me. Because I'm a guy that gets at the rink two hours before practice, I work out before. And he said, ‘I want Zegras and Drysdale with you every morning.’ First day, Bob Murray's on the bike. Zegras is not there. Second day, not there. He's like, ‘Go fucking get him.’
I told him, I was like, ‘Look, I don't want you to fucking lift as much weight as me. Just show your face. Just be there.’
And he started doing it every morning. He would bring me a coffee, stop at Starbucks, bring me a coffee. But he would be there. So he kind of got it into his head. They wanted him to be there early to kind of be a pro.”
