On today’s episode of Obscure NASCAR Photos I Happened to Stumble Upon: Bobby Labonte congratulating Denny Hamlin on his first pole win at Phoenix in 2005. I never realized they were actually Cup teammates for a brief time! JGR released Jason Leffler towards the end of 2005 (aka Labonte’s last season with the team) and Denny hopped in the 11 for the last 7 races of the season before taking over fulltime in 2006. In those 7 races, he got a pole and 3 top 10s compared to Leffler’s 0 poles and 0 top tens for the whole season. He then of course went on to have one of the best rookie seasons of any NASCAR driver ever.
