BOBBY VALENTIN
🎞️ Foto / Photo 1 (izq. a der. / L–R): Carlos "El Grande" Ferrer & Bobby Valentín. Bronx NY. 08/09/1987.
That day in the Bronx, running into Bobby Valentín, we didn't need many words. We already knew each other well , going back to the La Salsa Mayor days when we recorded the album "De Frente y Luchando" at his studio in Puerto Rico. He had arranged parts of the record. He had been there at the rehearsals, watching, listening. That says everything about Bobby: he isn't just El Rey del Bajo— he is a man who truly cares about the music.
Years later, there we were again, in the Bronx, same energy as always. Time passes, but respect doesn't.

Dos Sonoros - Bobby Valentin (Va A La Carcel (Vol. 1), 1975)
One of the most iconic images of the Tropical/Salsa genre has been the fiery fingers of BOBBY VALENTIN attacking the fretboard of his electric bass, whether behind the mincing and grinding Tito Rod…

I was listening to this song in the car recently, and it occurred to me that the first section sounded a lot like something the Skatalites might have recorded. Then the boogaloo section kicks in. Kinda cool.
