why don't you like bobby singer?
it’s not that i don’t like bobby singer per se, but i just think that he treats sam the way that john winchester treated dean but in a much more passive aggressive way. john always told dean to protect sam, look after sam, sam is the priority, nothing else matters. bobby sort of does the same thing to sam about dean.
like, in 10x17, he writes this long letter to sam saying he hopes he makes the right decision about dean, basically criticizing sam for how he’s handled the mark of cain situation, but he cushions it with “you’re a good man,” “i know you’ll make the right decision,” which is just sort of...manipulative. underhanded.
more obviously, when sam was risking his life to rescue bobby from hell, bobby decided to yell and fuss at sam about the fact that he didn’t look for dean when he was in purgatory. like, ok, bobby, you didn’t even try to figure out what was wrong with sam for the YEAR that he didn’t have his soul, but sure, yell at sam about dean while he’s trying to get your ass to heaven.
speaking of sam not having his soul, do not even get me STARTED on how bobby treated him when they DID get his soul back (“i’m havin a hard time forgiving and forgetting”) and how dean later uses that against sam (season 8 finale, when he’s listing what sam should confess) even though at the time dean wasn’t really pissed at sam at all. which, ok, fuck anybody who thinks sam is in the wrong for not telling anyone that he didn’t have his soul. HE DIDN’T HAVE A SOUL. he literally cannot be held responsible for anything he did while soulless. fuck bobby for that honestly.
and then in season 5 bobby acts all ~surprised~ when sam is rushing in out of a warehouse saving people, and he even says to dean that while they’re worrying about him going dark side, he’s running into burning buildings saving lives. like wow bobby, way to FINALLY notice that sam’s a good person after his entire lifetime of being a good person.
those are just the examples that come to mind. basically my issue with bobby is that i just do not like how he treats sam. i mean, for goodness sake, he even says dean is is his favorite while under a truth spell. I MEAN?/?/??
