Review: The Mantis Putter
By Rob Walters
Until testing the Mantis Putter I never realized how much I look at the putter head and not the ball. My whole life as an athlete I have been told to keep my eye on the ball and with putting I never do. The Mantis Putter is painted a green color that helps it blend into the putting surface so your eyes are drawn to the ball.
Other physical observations:
The custom Winn grip is just perfect as far as we are concerned. Just the right feel makes it a joy to hold in your hands.
The polyurethane face insert helped putts along just past the hole on misses, which is an amateurs delight. Reduces the dreaded short putt.
Alignment lines on top help you square up your putts to your intended target.
The Data
We used the simple iPing app to test consistency and found that compared to my blade putter I did in fact putt better with the Mantis. My overall consistency was better and more importantly my ball dispersion on 10-foot putts was much closer to the hole. Interestingly enough the iPing app concluded that I should be using a blade putter with my strong arc style but the Mantis showed that it’s mallet style was in fact a better choice.
