“I bought this for a couple of euros at a record fair in the Netherlands. I’d never heard of the artist and was attracted to it purely by the album cover and the concept. . Tolkien is the creation myth for all English prog rock. It’s the Albion fairytale land of kings and dragons and fair maidens that always seem to need rescuing. It’s Game of Thrones without the sex. It’s Dungeons and Dragons but with stalactite-studded caves instead of preppy boys bedrooms. . Music-wise, this is less overblown and more musically tuneful than, say Rick Wakeman’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth. It’s quite jazzy in places and shows a balanced and ‘classical’ (programmatic) approach to composition rather than the keyboard pyrotechnics that you tend to get with other prog musicians. I particularly liked the re-emergence of various themes running through the piece like the Baranduin running through Middle Earth...” . “We picked this from Sweden, two cats named Hansson & Karlsson. It’s called something like Tax Free”. Slik åpnet Jimi Hendrix gjerne sine konserter i månedene etter å ha jammet med duoen på den hippe Stockholms-klubben Filips en sen natt i 1967. Janne Karlssons progressive tromming og Bo Hanssons lyriske hammondorgel gjorde stort inntrykk på verdenstjernen, slik den gjorde det på andre utflippa svenske ungdommer denne psykedeliske kjærlighetssommeren.

Låta “Tax Free” ble bandets eneste internasjonale kjendis, men også resten av debutalbumet er noe mer en et interessant tidsbilde. Turete jamming blandet med editerte komposisjoner, vakre temaer og fri, groovy utfoldelse. “Folkpark-orgel” og jazzete beats. Musikken peker tydelig framover mot progressiv rock og jazz fusion – to sjangere som skulle erobre verden noen år senere. Da var typisk nok Hansson & Karlsson allerede historie.
