But for now here's a piece I did of my friend Pygmychi's norn character, Bohdana Delaroche !

Still on the subject of an imaginary “Bohdana”… I might not be able to draw her, but I’ve found the perfect face for her: opera singer Ewa Podleś. Just imagine her in a fur hat and either the rest of Bohdan’s costume from the movie or a similar looking 17th century dress – and then let her discuss the wording of a letter to Jeremi with a roaring crowd of Cossacks...!

And the best thing? She doesn’t just look like Bohdana, but also sound like her if I imagine this weird little daydream wasn’t a movie, but an opera:

Absolutely fearsome temper tantrums alternating with despair? Vanity, pride, ambition, and regret? An unexpected warmth and sadness now and then? She has it all in this song! And apart from what a wonderful Bohdana she’d be – let’s just take a moment to appreciate the spectacular voice and skill of this singer!

One of Ukraine’s domestically made Bohdana self-propelled howitzers withstood a direct hit from a Russian Lancet kamikaze drone, as seen in

Thinking quite a lot about Helena Czaplińska at the moment, I suddenly remembered that, when first looking her up on Wikipedia and putting the text in an online translator, I got quite a remarkable result. So I did it again to see if it would still produce the same mistake, and... tadaa.. it does.

So <<Серед старшини гетьманшу називали «ляшкою» і підозрювали у зв'язках із колишнім чоловіком Чаплинським.>>

becomes: "Among the officers, the hetman was called a "Lyashka" and was suspected of having relations with her ex-husband Chaplynsky."

Ahem.

Online translator...? You mean "the hetman's wife", don't you? You do mean "the hetman's wife". Because even with the very little Ukrainian I know I can see that that's what's in the original text. And because otherwise "the hetman [...] was suspected of having relations with her ex-husband".

Which.. would be a hilarious thing to allegedly be written in a Wikipedia article :) ("Ex-husband Chaplynsky" though? That is vile. And I guess the online translator can consider itself lucky that it can't be challenged to a duel...)
