Thanks for the follows, h2un, bohemiarose, and sarahwalker! I hope you all enjoy the blog!
You have proven that you are hatefull and disrespectful towards people you don't even know. I understand you get upset by a wrong tag, but there are bigger problems in the world than a tag. If you want to change something, be nicer. I might have listened to you and deleted the tag, but not when you say 'fuck you' and call me asshole.
You have proven that you are hatefull and disrespectful towards people you don't even know.
I have proven that I hate people who perpetuate stereotypes and insist on using a racist tag. I'm not being disrespectful. Why should I "respect" someone who insists on doing the above?
I understand you get upset by a wrong tag, but there are bigger problems in the world than a tag
Actually, the tag is a problem, and a symptom of the problem. You obviously STILL don't understand, but here's a final, short version:
In perpetuating stereotypes, you allow problems that are glossed over to continue. You allow people to continue to believe that "gypsies" are free spirited mythical creatures who don't exist. THAT IS THE PROBLEM. The romantic notions, the stereotypes, all add to the larger problem of ignoring what really happens. This is at least the third time I've explained this. GET WITH THE PROGRAM.
If you want to change something, be nicer. I might have listened to you and deleted the tag, but not when you say 'fuck you' and call me asshole.
"I know I'm being racist, and perpetuating stereotypes, and I know it hurts people and adds to the problem, but I'm gonna keep on doing it cause you were meeeeean to meeeeee!"
Do you realize exactly how fucking awful that is? You know what you're doing is wrong, and yet you're going to do it because I wasn't "nice"? Wonderful justification, there.
You need to examine yourself. Your feelings are more important to you than perpetuating racist stereotypes. Your feelings are more important than the damage you're causing. And I only became mean after you INSISTED that you were doing no wrong, then INSISTED that the extra 2 seconds it would take to delete the tags took up too much time, and now you're tone policing me, telling me to be nicer to you, while you post those racist pictures.
You are disgusting. Truly fucking disgusting. Grow up. Realize that your feelings are nothing compared to the willing damage you're causing.
Thank you. You have proven my point exactly. You may find me racist, but you are hatefull!
I've proven what point? That you have no clue what you're talking about? That you have this typical view of what "gypsy" means, and don't care if what Walking People go through is heard, because you'd rather have the "positive" stereotype out there? That you don't care if the cultures are lost, as long as everyone can appropriate what they think "gypsy" is?
I'm not hateful, I'm just sick of jackasses like you thinking that you have a right to put whatever you want out there without regards to who it hurts or what it does to other people's cultures. You posting shit tagged "gypsy" when it's some hippie in a flowy skirt and posting pics of hipster assholes in headdresses is proof enough of that. I'm not hateful, sweetheart, but you're still racist as hell, since you refuse to stop doing that bullshit after you've been told you're wrong, and had it explained to you why you're wrong.
'See, there’s where you’re mistaken. In the song by Shakira, she has lyrics that say “I might steal your clothes if you let me”. Gee, talking about being a gypsy and stealing…' True, I hate that specific lyric, but the rest of the song is postive! I still think the modern views are better, not the greatest, but better. because it is a positive view, gypsies are seen as free-spirits, and I think that is one way, one of many, to describe gypsies. We simply don't agree on this subject!
because it is a positive view, gypsies are seen as free-spirits, and I think that is one way, one of many, to describe gypsies.
NO. NO NO NO NO NO!
THAT IS NOT ONE OF MANY, MANY WAYS TO DESCRIBE GYPSIES!
The way to describe gypsies is SOMEONE WHO IS A FUCKING WALKING PERSON! UNLESS YOU'RE SPEAKING ABOUT THE WORD GYPSY ITSELF, WHICH IS A SLUR! THE ONLY WAY TO DESCRIBE GYPSIES IS "A WALKING PERSON" BECAUSE THAT IS THE LITERAL FUCKING MEANING!
HOW ABOUT INSTEAD OF PERPETUATING RACIST FUCKING STEREOTYPES, YOU FUCKING STOP AND EDUCATE PEOPLE, YOU DENSE ASS!
DID YOU COMPLETELY IGNORE THE PART WHERE I SAID POSITIVE FUCKING STEREOTYPES ARE FUCKING DAMAGING AND THAT IT DILUTES THE CULTURES OF WALKING PEOPLE??
NO. The whole damn song is a shitty stereotype! THE ENTIRE SONG IS A FUCKING BULLSHIT STEREOTYPE.
So you can sit all the way the fuck down and shut up.
YOU ARE FUCKING WRONG. There is no "agreeing" because you've decided that being a racist ass is more important than ACTUALLY MAKING KNOWN WHAT WALKING PEOPLE GO THROUGH.
Fuck you. For real, just FUCK YOU.
Yes I get annoyed when people use romantic views, but because of these views I do understand that a lot of photos are tagged with ‘gypsy’. The romantic views of Gypsies are wrong, but much better than the ‘old view’ that gypsies are thieves. The culture get’s more positive attention from young people. Some people have become interested in the culture after Shakira’s song. Initially they only knew the romantic views, but after learning more, they got to know the true culture.
See, there's where you're mistaken. In the song by Shakira, she has lyrics that say "I might steal your clothes if you let me". Gee, talking about being a gypsy and stealing...
And no, the new views aren't better. They aren't better because they still promote a false ideal that leads to either A) the appropriation of Roma cultures and dilutes the meaning behind parts of it (I.E. the reason that long skirts are worn, or why some women wear a diklo), which damages those cultures, or B) Creates the idea of "gypsy as temptress", which sexualizes Roma women, making them nothing but sex objects, and leads to increased incidents of sexual assault against them.
Both views are just as damaging, but in different ways. Both present false ideals, both dilute and misrepresent the cultures of Roma worldwide.
What you're saying is the same type of argument that hipsters use in wearing War Bonnets. "It's not negative, so it's not damaging!" Wrong.
Also, these people who hear the song "Gypsy" by Shakira don't go out and learn what Roma cultures are really like, they look into the stereotypes that they WANT to see, thus why they post the shit they do on weheartit. They don't care about the truth, about the assaults and violent antiziganism. That would ruin their little dream world. They want hippies and freedom and mysticism.
‘I’m pretty sure the use of a slur is a damn big problem. I’m positive that the misrepresentation of cultures is a problem. I’m pretty sure that presenting false ideals of a culture, and pictures that have nothing to do with said cultures is a problem.’Yes that is a problem, a huge problem actually, I can’t argue with you on that! But a tag, a tag, honestly, so much hatred over a tag, that is what I don’t understand.
Because within that tag there are so many stereotypes that fly around. There's complete misrepresentation. There's racist bullshit. THAT'S why so much hate: IT PERPETUATES DAMAGING STEREOTYPES! It's not that hard to understand.
No I don’t get annoyed people use the tag gypsy on weheartit, because I understand.
So wait, you do get annoyed when people post romanticized ideals, or you don't, because you just completely contradicted yourself. You can't have it both ways, it's one or the other.
The pictures often have a ‘gypsy-feel’ to them, the romantic view of course, but still. The tag makes people find photos like that. Unfortunately many young people do not care for the real Roma people, they want to romantic version, ‘the Shakira version’, and when they look for gypsy photos on weheartit, they get what they want!
It's pretty easy to educate people. Tag pictures of ACTUAL Romani with the tag "gypsy" to educate them, like people do on here. And don't post or reblog stuff from there that has a "gypsy" feel. Don't use that tag. Or, as I said, take the extra few seconds to look at the tags and take it off of there. It isn't going to eat into your study time.
I don't understand why you are so offensive right away. There is no need to be so hateful. I'm sure you don't like Shakira's song 'Gypsy', but are you hateful towards her? Just because you tell me it’s offensive, does not mean I automatically stop using the tag gypsy. I actually find that quite annoying! If you have a problem with it, simply stop visiting my blog and reblogging pictures. Your comments are not going to make a difference, definitely not when you are so hateful!
You're the one who uses a racist tag, and I'm the bas guy for being offended? Yep, okay, makes total sense in La-La Land.
As for Shakira, yeah, lost all respect for her after that song.
And a person from the group that word is used against tells you it's offensive, and YOU'RE annoyed? I'm annoyed by people like you who COMPLETELY ignore what people have told you, just because you don't want to stop using it. Nice mentality.
I'm not being hateful. This is me being calm, believe me. If I was being hateful, you would sure as hell know it. Now, on to your second ask:
I copy it, without looking at the tags. Laziness? No, not really, I have to study, but since I get a lot of requests from people to keep posting, I spend some time posting pictures from weheartit, using those tags.
It takes 2 seconds to look at the tags, and an extra few seconds to delete the damn tag. You're being lazy, and from here on out, it counts as racism since you've now been told MULTIPLE TIMES!
Actually, if you wanna be technical, it was racist before, even if it was unintentional. But after this? It's INTENTIONAL RACISM.
Simple as that. Oh and just to let you know, I am of Roma descent, and yes I can get annoyed when people used ‘gypsy’ in a romantic way, but I don’t hate over a little tag, seriously?
You're of Roma descent (was your grandmother a gypsy princess?) and get annoyed when people use gypsy in a romantic way, but don't get pissed when people post things on weheartit that have nothing to do with Walking People whatsoever or present romantic views of Walking People?? I'm sorry, but something about that argument cries bullshit to me.
There are bigger problems in the world! Don’t call me a racist!
I'm pretty sure the use of a slur is a damn big problem. I'm positive that the misrepresentation of cultures is a problem. I'm pretty sure that presenting false ideals of a culture, and pictures that have nothing to do with said cultures is a problem.
And I call em as I see em.
