Soifon from Bleach. She is, tragically, one of my favorite characters even though she's terrible. (Affectionate)

Bleach in general has an issue of having a way too large cast of characters that all have a few things that imply much cooler things about them than they ever end up getting on the screen, and Soifon gets it the worst tbh.

She's introduced as this like, cool collected assassin/amoral agent of the "government" character but in her first real fight it culminates in a surprisingly emotionally resonant scene where she breaks down that tells you a lot about her character. But then that scene never has a resolution and she proceeds to only show up a few more times to lose fights and yell a lot.

I mainly was drawn in by her character design when I was younger and have since latched on to a bunch of the weird like... implied characterization that never goes anywhere or means anything.

Also, she really got a rough hand in the anime because she got stuck with a like, comedic gag personality trait in the filler and that ended up constituting the majority of her screen time in the anime which is just painful.

I took like 6 years of choir in school and I have good pitch and all that but I wouldn't say it's anything special, I have performed in front of people before but obviously that's as a group. I'll only sing by myself if I'm alone.

LOL so basically, when I was a small child, my mother read constantly (she lives off of thrillers and mystery novels and would go through one a week or so. As a family, we basically lived at the library). She's also the one who read to me at night.

My father, on the other hand, I never saw reading anything at all. He was and still is a TV guy.

And, speaking of the library, all the people who worked there and ran story times and such were also women. And also all my preschool teachers who read to me were women.

So I just. never interacted with men reading. And got it in my head that reading was a gendered thing, somehow? I don't know, the thought processes of the child I used to be are a mystery to me.

I just know that when I was 4 or so I walked in on my dad reading the newspaper and blurted out "YOU CAN READ??" and he gave me such a weird look that I ran away aksdjfhasdj

(no need to respond/post this ask just wanted to let u know I admire u telling that person that it really is Not A Good Compliment, most ppl who do it don't realize it sucks but hopefully they get a chance to reflect/grow when told point-blank that it aint a good way to engage or compliment)

For the fanfic ask game: C, I, and T?

C: What character do you identify with most?

Oh this is a tough one. Sometimes characters have moments where I find them #relatable, but there’s basically never been a moment where I looked at anyone and went “wow this is me” except maybe pre-Shippuden Sasuke back when I first got into Naruto in the early 2010s adsfjlkhsk. I think it might because I find myself too cringe and disgusting to associate with any fictional characters in any way, like all of them are too good to be done dirty like that lmao

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?

Idk I guess no matter the fandom I’m in I almost always do the thing where I gravitate towards the ‘alternative’ ships that aren’t the ones literally everyone likes. So as a result I like a lot of rarepairs and since basically no one else likes them (or at least enough to create content for them) I feel bad for liking them and I can end up hating myself for not liking the popular things that everyone else seems to enjoy :’) Idk if that’s what ‘guilty pleasure’ means or if I’m stretching the definition a bit though lol

T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand?

The one fandom trope that pisses me off no matter the fandom is the one where they woobify the heck out of the MC by taking their (often already tragic) backstory and cranking the angst up to unnecessary levels to the point where it’s almost comedic. Like maybe they get bullied on-screen in canon but in these fics they get absolutely brutalised to near-death, sometimes even throwing in stuff like sexual abuse just for the hell of it?? And these fics are often paired with tropes of the MC being given some OP power where they end up taking their revenge on all the people who wronged them and idk in general it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth but they’re so damn popular that they’re impossible to avoid. To date, out of the fandoms I’ve been in, Harry Potter, Naruto, KHR and BNHA are some of the worst offenders of this, to the point that I can no longer stand to read any fics centred on their MCs.

Yes! It definitely felt designed to paint her in a bad light, which is interesting when the Shadow Chorus has seemed pretty neutral thus far. I might look at their future shadow plays with a more skeptical eye... I hope my liveblog of the second half was fun to read~! I certainly loved doing it!

Yes! It’s glorious, I loved it! It’s always been Utena’s inherent care and nobility and empathy; she couldn’t just leave that girl! And the ring... it wasn’t to bring Utena to “her Prince”, it was to bring Utena to that place, to Anthy, to where she can bring love and relief to that girl. And the fate of being a prince in this world...

...there’s a part of me that wonders if they’ll manage to avoid that... by leaving “this world”. Breaking the egg.

what was my coming out experience like?? ooof okay. so i had my first girlfriend in like... kindergarten. I’ve know i’ve liked girls forever, i realized i didn’t like men when i was like 14 but didn’t realize that if i called myself bisexual i was supposed to like men until i was like 18 lmao. I came out to my father when i was 18 and he told me he didn’t care and that he already knew, my mother straight up asked me “what sexuality are you?” when i was 19 because it was like... unavoidable and i was visibly dykey lmao and i came out to her then (it was a mistake but oh well!!)
