Time didn’t really mean much to the one they called Kairos, especially not in the enchanted sleep she was kept under when not in use. But even she could tell it had been a while since the last time she’d been woken. The voices issuing her command phrases and checking the control spells tattooed across her body were different, so were the faces peering at her as she woke. There was none of the cool detachment of her usual handlers, these men were angry and restless. And finally, after the process of ensuring she was properly awake and still under control she was given a picture of her target.
Something about the blonde in the image, with her green eyes and petite build, pulled at something buried deep in the back of her mind. But she ignored it, allowing herself to be kitted out in her usual gear. The reinforced leather pants and jacket, all the armor she was ever given, the multitude of weapons, the gloves and finally the mask that was really more of a muzzle. Back in the early days, before their control was perfected, she hadn’t hesitated to bite when someone got too close so they’d developed the face piece of her uniform to keep it from happening again. It also meant she couldn’t really talk while on the job, but that was fine with them. She was a weapon, no need for a weapon to have a voice. Finally she was prepared and on the hunt and nothing else mattered.
She was Kairos, she was Death, and she had a Job to do.
