I did a big fun 10k called the Bolder Boulder this year and midway through there was an old guy working the race who cheered us on by saying “enjoy those jelly donuts, this next part is downhill!”
I didn’t see any jelly donuts, but there’s a lot of people handing out little treats and drinks at this race so I figured they were ahead
A jelly donut didn’t sound super good mid run anyway, but I was happy for the downhill
But the next section was actually uphill and I never saw anyone with jelly donuts
So like what was that guy’s problem?
I ran the Bolder Boulder 10K (the largest 10K in the country) last year but I decided to volunteer this year instead.
Here’s why -
I prefer longer and less crowded races but I still wanted to be part of this CO tradition. I also didn’t want to spend more money on running or be in rough physical condition (again) going from the finish line straight to work.
Volunteering allows me to still be a part of the race - without having to spend more $$$. I love giving back to the running community and can’t wait to cheer on my fellow athletes. I don’t feel a pressing NEED to run this race a second time and the free jacket & t-shirt I’ll receive is a great bonus too.

Bolder Boulder 10K 5/28/18
Didn’t expect to hear the call to the post when I got up this morning to run BolderBOULDER since I’m not going to the horse races today. But it was a neat surprise.
