NOTE: I'm watching "The Bikeriders" later today, so, I thought I'd post these on "Motörhead Monday." These are for you, Lem'. Ride on, you legend, ride on.

^Even Lemmy knew how dangerous motorcycles were (in a world filled to death with cars, that is), which is probably why he never owned one, and thank fuck because we needed him alive decades later to keep the flame of Motörmusic alive and speeding.

RELEASED 45 YEARS AGO ON THIS DAY -- BOMBING THEIR WAY WITH PROTO-THRASH FURY.

PIC(S) INFO: Mega spotlight on "Bomber," the third studio album by English rock and roll band MOTÖRHEAD. It was released domestically in the UK on October 12, 1979 by Bronze Records, their second with the label.

Not gonna lie, this is probably my all-time favorite Motörmusic album ever made as I had all but burnt out "Overkill," and hadn't really picked up on "Ace of Spades" yet at the time. Some say it is a "weaker" album as certain songs are fairly slower than in their other releases, but maybe that's exactly why it hits me differently. I @¢!*#%$& love this album to death, and personal favorites include: "Sweet Revenge," "Sharpshooter," "Stone Dead Forever," "All the Aces," "Step Down," and that killer title track, of course.

It’s about a bombing raid on Germany when the British hit the wrong town, and it’s what goes on, on the floor and in the air from both sides. It’s a really good book. You should read it.” As for “Over the Top,” which he acknowledged as one of his best songs, he said, “It’s about going nuts. … What do I know about going nuts? I took acid for eight years. PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on the individual portraits of MOTÖRHEAD featured on the back cover/sleeve art to the band's 1979 "Bomber" LP, released under the UK's Bronze Records.

LP OVERVIEW: "By 1979, MOTÖRHEAD had been together for four years and had amassed a loyal following in both punk and heavy metal circles. After recording an album for United Artists that the label shelved, the band released its eponymous debut LP in 1977, but it was with 1979's "Overkill" that the band hit their stride. The title track landed in the UK Top 40 and, after appearing again on "Top of the Pops," the band returned to the studio that summer with legendary producer Jimmy Miller to record what would become "Bomber." However, the band did not have the opportunity to work up the songs on the road, as they had with their previous album. Joel McIver quotes singer and bassist Lemmy in his book "Overkill: The Untold Story of Motörhead":

"..I wish we'd played the songs onstage first, like we did with the "Overkill" album, if we could've played them for three weeks on the road it would have been less slick.....Listen to the way we play them live and compare that to the album.."

"Bomber" would peak at No. 12 on the UK albums chart, their strongest showing up to that point."

IN MEMORIAM -- THE LATE, GREAT "PHILTHY" ANIMAL ON HIS FAVORITE MOTÖRHEAD SONGS TO PLAY.

PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on the late, great Philip John Taylor (21 September 1954 – 12 November 2015), a.k.a., "Philthy Animal", English rock 'n' roll/metal punk drummer and classic member of MOTÖRHEAD.

METALIVILLE: "What would you say your favourite songs are that you drummed on and been part of and why?"

PHILTHY ANIMAL: "Well, most of those would be MOTÖRHEAD songs -- "Overkill," "Bomber," "Stay Clean," "The Chase is Better than the Catch." I mean I liked 'em all really because I enjoyed playing the drums and being in a three-piece band you have to work a bit harder than if you are in a four or five piece band because there's gaps and if you are in MOTÖRHEAD you have tom work even harder because there's no bass player.

Lemmy's not a bass player -- he's a fuckin' guitar player playing a bass and there's no bottom end there so I do a lot more tom fills than other drummers but I enjoyed playing that. I enjoyed playing 'em all."
