Bondrewd is a monster and yet he's written in a way you can't quite hate him either. Not like Shou Tucker hate either and it's because Bondrewd really does care for the children under his care. He cares because he remembers their names and their dreams. He is both cruel and kind and those two features work in tandem with each other.
He's not doing this for titles or glory...his horrific experiments are meant to further study the abyss and its affects and you end up begrudgingly looking at his work and seeing some truth in it.
