This is absolutely a trick question because no show is as good as Hannibal. But it’s still really really good! And honestly, while they share a genre (ish), they’re very different shows who present their stories in very different ways. I think fans of one would easily become fans of the other, but it truly is apples and oranges. Or... cannibals and demons? :P

I’m gonna be honest with you, I haven’t seen them since they came out and am not a big LoTR person to begin with, and mostly found that post pretty funny. THAT SAID, I am inclined to believe you’re right, not only because you usually are but also because going through the notes on that thing was starting to give me a headache. Lots of Grand Pronouncements on What Fantasy Is that were just...not accurate. But I think maybe it’s easy to get caught up in the grandeur and beauty of it all and kind of miss the whole “elegiac mourning” thing that’s definitely woven into the story.

Gonna get all philosophical for a moment, but what I really think we should all do (we being whatever portion of society wants to have children and has the means to do so) is adopt. We should stop giving birth altogether for like.... a while.  I think in a sense it’s our moral and civic duty. Does anyone really have a right to have a child?

it’s a difficult question because on the one hand you very much want to be  pro “my body my choice” and if you want to have children you should be able to make that decision for yourself.. But how is raising a child naturally any different than raising one you adopted? And the latter is a very involved process that you have to jump through all sorts of hoops to be able to attain, which only goes tenfold if you’re single or gay or trans. If we can limit who gets to have a child via adoption why can’t, and why shouldn’t we do the same kind of thing for people who want to have their own child? (Except you know, obviously not discriminate on the basis of race gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, IQ, or marital status). 

I’m not saying we should Big Brother people, and tbh even if we tried I doubt it would be effective. I’m just saying we should start thinking about parenting differently, and hopefully, stop seeing becoming a parent via natural means as this kind of Self Actualizing Event that all humans should strive for. Less people should have children and less frequently, and what should become the norm is either adopting or not having a child at all. Imagine a society where most people ended up adopting. That would be cool.
