Regarding prices, I do commissions as well and family members keep saying that I'm underpricing, but I'm afraid to overprice for my work. I'm not perfect, and my art can vouch for that (I'm bad with particular poses and take forever to do stuff), so I don't think I should be pricing too much since I'm still a learner. Am I thinking wrong?
Well tbh, commission prices are a learning process. I started out doing shit HELLA cheap because I had 0 confidence in my art, and myself as a seller.
After doing commissions for years, my clients and such have helped me learn that I can truly make them happy. My art IS worth something, and my “customer service” is pretty sick too. I’m constantly keeping in contact as I work on a piece, showing them every little step, ect.
(Which I think should be basic for all artists doing commissions, but apparently its not. I’ve gotten commissions from other artists who just take the idea and make whatever they want, without checking if things are good, and they’re also unwilling to edit things. Which is...something I think we should all do? idk)
I think you should start out with prices you are comfortable with, and the more you are able to do, the more you are able to satisfy, and the more you are confident in how your things will turn out, the more your prices should reflect that.
