oooh robot paladin please thankyou!
Livy, short for Deliverance, is a paladin and also a robot. Her best friend, Haste, is a cleric and a smart-ass but that's allowed because the god of truth is loosey-goosey about manners as long as you're, you know, truthful.
Livy hasn't been chosen by a god yet, which is stressful for her. In this setting, people train to become paladins or clerics and at some point one of the gods decides to claim you (rather than coming in with a faith). Livy's extra worried because people pulled some real "dogs can't play basketball" shit about her being an automaton and what if none of the gods want an automaton worshipper?
There's ten gods and I just realized I only wrote down what eight of them were the gods of but, mercifully, I remembered what they were supposed to be. always write things down!
The newest god is a god of complex machinery, so people are always like "well, that'll probably be your guy!" and Livy is sort of hoping she gets absolutely anybody else at all.
This setting has a problem with giant monsters called grotesques that destroy villages and have conveniently magical and harvestable body parts. So Livy and Haste are going to go meet a third guy, Mark, and they'll all go kill the monster and Mark will harvest parts of it for the monastery.
D&D doesn't let paladins cast Smite with ranged weapons but, good news, this isn't D&D and the robot having a religious crisis also has a gun.
I meandered away from this project when I realized it could be a twine game where the player's choices shape which god eventually picks Livy. there are a lot of good options.
but a novelette is way easier to write and finish than a twine game. but. also. it would be a very good Twine game.
