Kai tree headcanon
I had some issues with the new lore depending Kais/Glinds and their birth trees in DB Daima.
Disclaimer: This is just my little headcanon I wanna use for my stories with my OCs. If you don’t agree with me, it’s totally fine and I’m happy you enjoy it.
At first, I was very little concerned about actually seeing a Kai/Shinjin Baby on the tree in the show. The way it hangs was unexpected, but ok.
But then I gave it some thought. My medical brain had questions for that weird anatomy. How would the flow of nutrients happen to the baby? They need lots of them to grow, but also will develop everything into a bipedal humanlike body. So, they should have a spine, right?

I’m not really happy about the thought that their umbilical cord is attached to their back and therefore will leave a mark (next to the fact that I really wanna keep Shins and Bontos belly button in my future art). So, yeah. This retcon got a big NO from me.
Since the lore about the Shinjin and their trees has been around for a while now, I really wanna combine the new and the old for my stories (and sanity). For me there is not really a difference in turning the baby around, so the cord still is on the baby’s belly. It’s not that much of work for a child to stay in a fetal position and grow like that. Next, I wanna cover the child with thin petals, similar to a physalis fruit. These can protect the little one from outside harm while it takes its time to grow.
These petals can come in a big variety of colors. One of them is yellow / gold. And that’s where I wanna stick to the old lore now. I prefer the Kais alive and thriving on a very small planet outside of all the universes. Let’s just say that one tree survived the emigration from the Demon Realm in Daima (maybe Lord Rymus helped out? Maybe one of the old Kais/Glinds transformed into one? No one knows what really happened). And on this tree, there are fruits from time to time. Small Kai children get nursed and attend a small school to prepare themselves for the important work they will have later. But since there are only a few supreme Kais allowed in each universe and their life span is so long, the Kais needed a way to find out which one of them would be fitting for the most important job of an universe. So, pretty early after their emigration they started to give roles and education depending on the rarity of the petal color. Since golden is pretty rare, the “golden fruit children” became the higher class on their planet and future supreme Kai candidates. Other colors became somewhat of a lower class and have to work harder to get into the supreme Kai position.
Shin is was born from a golden fruit, while Bonto came from a flower with reddish petals. Poor little Bonto got bullied a lot because of this, but also because of his deafness.
