Its play-off time! Or at least that is the best analogy I can come up with for what is about to happen in our office over the next month.
Unlike what happens in the hockey or NBA playoffs that are about to start, in our office it is not the last one that is standing that wins. In our office the sooner your personal tax return gets out, the better for you.
Now we won’t all be growing play-off beards like the NHL’ers. The reason is that it would take me way more than a month to grow anything resembling a beard, and even then, it would pretty awful. Plus the few times I’ve tried it was really itchy.
In the NHL, a game going to overtime is an unexpected surprise. This year I can tell you for certain that our playoffs are going to overtime. You see April 30th falls on a Saturday. When a tax deadline falls on a weekend the deadline is extended to the following Monday. So That means this year your tax return has to be filed by April 32nd (or May 2). Be sure and follow along on all of the crazy things that happen in an accounting office in April with the hashtag #Boo32 in honor of our extra long month!
At the end of our playoffs no one is going to hang a big banner from the rafters. We do hand out player of the week awards for outstanding contributions by our team members, and I can tell you there certainly is a large cup to drink from at the end of it all!
So over the next month be sure and do your all-star accountant a favor. Get your taxes in early and return their phone call quickly so that you can win our play-offs and get your return back before we get into overtime.
