read more. even if it’s your receipt from the grocery store. even if it’s the subtitles on your tv show. even if it’s something silly and inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. read your old writing. your old notes app ramblings. read the license plates around you. read the menus. read the back of someone’s shirt. read children’s books. even if they’re picture books. even if they’re simple. even if you think, “wow, this is so stupid of me.” because i’ll tell you one thing. reading ANYTHING is a powerful thing. while i do want you to read more than what i’ve listed, i also know you have to start from somewhere. so if your starting point is simple, that’s okay. it’s your starting point. every great athlete, every great actor has one. every great anything has a day one, no matter how small or stupid it may seem. read all you can, if you can. something is better than nothing. just be sure not to only stick to what is simple. you’ll find the gold mines soon enough, but you got to get started before you know how to get there.
