So…hello starless sea loving tumblr. I am a long time fan and a (probably?) first time poster on these tags. This book has been the cornerstone of my life for….my entire adolescence and well beyond. It taught me a lot about who I am, and who I want to be. So today I immortalized these words (fittingly in ink) on my body! I am not usually one to post this stuff but i’m so happy with the result, i need everyone to see.
I am not sure how else to demonstrate my deep deep deep wide wide wide feelings for this spectacular piece of literature. I am always seeking and always finding and this book helped me realize as much.

this is my first tat ever and i am sooooo happy it was for my most loved and most hated (/lh) book in my bookshelf. this is my favourite part of the whole book!!
if i hadn’t of read house of leaves, i would have never written my own novel, so i owe a lot to those pages.

Sylvia Plath's poem "Lady Lazarus" (written 23-29 October 1962) meets the fig tree from her novel The Bell Jar:
“I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked. One fig was a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor, and another fig was Ee Gee, the amazing editor, and another fig was Europe and Africa and South America, and another fig was Constantin and Socrates and Attila and a pack of other lovers with queer names and offbeat professions, and another fig was an Olympic lady crew champion, and beyond and above these figs were many more figs I couldn’t quite make out. I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn’t make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet.”

I got a book tattoo recently, and it’s healing now, and it looks sooo beautiful. also, I realized tattoos aren’t that painful as long as I have someone with me who’s going to hold my hand the whole time, and let me curl up and press their palm to my cheek when it gets intense. 10/10 experience, I love artists
