Warning:Long, controversial caption incomming. . On the subject of diversity in books: . While I consider myself LGBTQA+, I will not deny that I am ignorant in a lot of areas both within and outside that particular community. It's an unfortunate side effect of the environment that I was born and raised in, and while I will always attempt to educate myself further, I can't promise that I will never make a mistake. . Because I will. Not on purpose, of course. But I believe it is unavoidable. . This is why, I believe that all kinds of representation is important. Both the good and the bad. It's important because it invites to debate. . Case in point: The 50 Shades trilogy. While the book itself might not represent a minority (unless you count the BDSM community) then it invited to so many talks of abusive behaviour. I was made aware of things I'd never thought of before. It opened my eyes in a way that other books might not. And you know why? Because instead of boycotting the book, I talked about it. I discussed it. I learned. . Do I agree with everything I was told? Of course not. And I still find possessive fictional heroes appealing in some way. (Rowan you sexy fae!) But I now have the skills to recognise if I stumble across an unhealthy relationship. . Which is all we, in the book community can really hope for. To raise awareness of the dangers of the real world, by discussing fictional problems. . And this is why it's important to avoid censure, boycotts and the likes. And why it is even. More important to dicuss books without attacking each other. . Don't waste time faulting me for my ignorance. Instead, let's work together to make the next generation wiser... . I might decide to do a proper blog post about this, but the gist of it is this: don't be a dick. To yourself or others. . On another note: drop your favorite controversial and diverse reads in the comments. Help me educate myself. Also, have a lovely day. 💙 . #Bookstagram #books #yabooks #bibliophile #bookcommunity #bookcontroversy #diversereads #booklover #booknerd #bookjunkie #bookaholic #bookworm #bookblog #bookishaddict #readersofinstagram
