I'll never understand how people are brave enough to share music with eachother. Music is personal to me. How do you share a song you love with someone and risk thinking about them when you hear it after they've left? How do you share a part of you with them? How do you let them in? How do you trust them? How do you let them know about something so close to your soul?

The Book Dragon -  A review

So, I read Moers newest literary effusions. Unfortunately, it doesn’t live up to its predecessors. It doesn’t pick up pace until two thirds in. Then it gets quite interesting though, and the booklings are actually allowed to shine. But the choice of Hildegunst writing down Hilde 2′s story as the bookling was told by Nathaviel, the dragon sitting in the Orm bog. Except for bookling Hilde they are people who like to hear themselves talk.

There are highlights, though: Moers’ traditional style is back. Introducing the story and leading back out of it, there are little comics depicting Hildegunst, his previous and future life. Which gives us a view on our favourite paper monster poster boy, Homuncolossus.

The true highlight, though, which makes it still worth to buy the book is the excerpt of the long time ominous story The Isle Of The Thousand Lighthouses. It’s a letter from Hildegunst to Hachmed Ben Kibitzer about his tremendously adventurous journey to the island Eydernorn (as in the German island Norderney).

The text on the left says: To recover from his traumatic experiences in the Catacombs, Hildegunst travels to Eydernorn on his doctor’s advice for cure. There is supposed to be the healthies climate in all of Zamonia. To give it a professional sense, he wants to examine Eydernorn’s one-of-a-kind lighthouse culture and wants to tell Hachmed all about it. But instead of finding peace and cure, he spirals into a net of mysterious events and dangerous adventures, certainly able to top those down in the catacombs.
