Nephlim ruins of the olympus (book 2)

So I thought I was just going to read “a quick chapter” of The Nephilim: Ruins of Olympus by D.H. Drake…and then suddenly it was three hours later, my snack was gone, and my social life had almost flatlined. Tragic, but also kind of worth it.

This book throws you back in with Daniel Hunter Drake (yes, he’s back, and yes, the drama has somehow leveled up). Things start out complicated and then immediately go “who needs chill when you can have chaos?” with new friends, sketchy allies, mysterious enemies, and a whole lot of secrets hiding in the shadows of Olympus.

The vibe is:

“I just wanted a normal life” main character energy.

Mythology, angels, demons, and ancient plots all playing tug‑of‑war with one teenager’s sanity.

Found family + “can I actually trust you or are you going to stab me in the back” tension.

The pacing feels like reading someone’s dramatic diary where every entry ends with “AND THEN IT GOT WORSE.” There’s action, creepy ruins, and big emotional moments, but it never gets so dark that it stops being fun. The worldbuilding leans into biblical and mythological lore (Nephilim, ancient plots, all that good spooky stuff), but it stays readable even if you’re not, like, a walking theology textbook. ​

My favorite part is how the relationships get messier in the best way: new characters show up with their own secrets and loyalties, and suddenly Daniel is stuck choosing who to believe while the stakes keep getting higher. If you like books where the main character is just trying to figure out who they are while the universe is busy throwing monsters, prophecies, and moral dilemmas at them…this is definitely that.

Overall: It feels like someone crossed a supernatural action show with a very dramatic journal, sprinkled in mythology, and then hit “intensify.” No spoilers, but the questions get bigger, the dangers get scarier, and by the end you’ll be like, “So…where’s the next book, and why isn’t it in my hands already?!”

The vampire knitting club book 1

So apparently my new personality is “girl who listens to vampires knit in an Oxford yarn shop,” and honestly…I’m not mad about it.

Lucy thinks she’s just inheriting her grandma’s little knitting shop in Oxford, and then boom: surprise vampires in the basement, late‑night knitting club, and also she’s secretly a witch with very quirky relatives and a supposedly dead grandma who keeps popping up like, “miss me?” It’s less “dark and broody vampire drama” and more “paranormal Pinterest board exploded in England,” with magic, cozy mystery vibes, and a bunch of undead knitters who run upstairs when they’re out of wool.

Things I loved:

The setting feels like the coziest murder‑free murder mystery ever: old Oxford streets, a yarn shop, and a magical underworld all snuggled together.

The vampires are more “sassy neighbors” than “I sparkle in biology class,” which makes the late‑night knitting meetings low‑key hilarious.

Lucy figuring out she’s a witch and inheriting this whole hidden family situation gives big “I thought I was just awkward, actually I’m magical” energy.

Tiny gripes (because I’m being honest, not a total fangirl):

Sometimes it leans so hard into the cozy that the tension kind of unravels like a dropped ball of yarn.

Depending on your taste, the paranormal elements might feel a bit light and fluffy instead of super intense or dark.

Overall, this felt like drinking hot chocolate in Halloween pajamas while solving a mystery with your weird but lovable supernatural friends. If you want a fun, feel‑good, low‑stress paranormal story with vampires, witches, and a knitting club you 100% want to join, this is it.

Rating: 4.5 skeins of enchanted yarn out of 5.

Pestilence by Laura Thalassa

When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed.

Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed.

Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her… and hers towards him.

And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she'll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.

54... freaking chapters... TOTTALY WORTH IT!

This book felt like getting dragged through the apocalypse by your feelings and somehow saying “thank you” at the end. Sara is such a stubborn little gremlin of a heroine – she makes horrible, human choices, and you absolutely get why she does every single one. Pestilence starts off as this cold, unshakeable force of nature, and watching that crack (slowly, painfully, deliciously) was half the fun. ​

The pacing is wild in the best way: plagues, burning towns, long stretches of travel, tiny stolen moments of tenderness that make you forget you’re literally riding with the end of the world. The romance is morally messy, borderline feral, and definitely not going to be for everyone – but if you like your love stories complicated, a little toxic, and wrapped in apocalypse-level angst, this scratches that itch. I also loved how the book never really lets you forget that Pestilence is not human; the power imbalance, the violence, and the religious undertones give the whole thing this dark, unhinged fairy-tale vibe. ​

Was it comfortable to read? Absolutely not. Did I put it down? Also absolutely not. This is one of those stories where you keep asking “why am I rooting for this?” and then immediately turn to the next chapter anyway. If you want soft, cozy romance, run. If you want end-of-the-world road trip, divine punishment, and a love story that shouldn’t work but somehow does, Pestilence delivers. 7/10 flowers will read again.

Pride and Prejudice By Jane Austen adapted by Lulu Raczka

Grab your sisters and cinch those corsets! This is a retelling of Jane Austen’s beloved Pride and Prejudice like no other, performed by a remarkable new cast with an original score by Grammy-nominated composer, Morgan Kibby.

Today I finished listening to Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, adapted by Lulu Raczka, and my brain is basically one giant Regency-era swoon.

So, the story is about Elizabeth Bennet, who is kind of the original “I’m not like other girls” but in a smart, sarcastic way. She has four sisters, a super dramatic mom, and a chill, eye-rolly dad. Everyone around her is freaking out about getting husbands, and then Mr. Darcy shows up like the human version of “Do Not Disturb” mode—rich, awkward, and totally judgy. At first he seems like a complete jerk, but plot twist: he’s actually shy, proud, and terrible at people.

The cool thing about this adaptation is that it feels more like you’re in Elizabeth’s head, kind of like how Dork Diaries is all Nikki’s diary entries. The audio uses dialogue, sound effects, and Elizabeth’s point of view instead of a boring-sounding narrator reading every single line of the original text. You can hear the doors, footsteps, and background noises, which makes it feel like you’re eavesdropping on everyone’s drama in real time.

The cast is also seriously next level. Marisa Abela voices Elizabeth, and she nails the whole “I’m annoyed but also secretly catching feelings and I hate that for me” energy. Harris Dickinson as Darcy starts off sounding stiff and uptight, but as the story goes on, you can totally hear him softening and being less of a robot. There are also big-name actors like Glenn Close as Lady Catherine and Bill Nighy as Mr. Bennet, which makes the whole thing feel like some star-studded period drama in your ears.

My favorite part is how much it focuses on Elizabeth’s thoughts and feelings. In some classic books, the language can make characters feel kind of far away, but here, her emotional meltdown when she realizes she was wrong about Darcy and totally fooled by Wickham hits way harder.

9 out of 10 flowers.

I’d recommend it if:

You like romance but want the main girl to have a brain.

You like drama, but with jokes, misunderstandings, and savage comebacks.

You want a shortcut through a classic without reading the whole original novel first.

THE NEPHLIM BY DH DRAKE

D.H. Drake’s The Nephilim: Special Edition drops you straight into the life of Daniel Hunter Drake — a kid who thinks he’s ordinary until the universe taps him on the shoulder and says “actually, no.” What starts as a normal coming‑of‑age story quickly spirals into a millennia‑old conflict where angels, demons, and destiny all have their own plans for him. Suddenly Daniel isn’t just navigating school and crushes; he’s dodging divine forces and trying to figure out what it means to exist between them.

What I Loved The premise is instantly gripping. A teen caught between God and the Devil? That’s the kind of high‑stakes setup that begs to be explored.

Daniel’s identity journey feels relatable, even with the supernatural chaos swirling around him.

The low key call outs about MCR and anime.

The pacing keeps you turning pages, especially as the mystery of who — and what — Daniel is starts to unravel.

The mythological angle adds weight without feeling like a lecture. It’s more “ancient secrets unfolding” than “textbook lore dump.”

What Didn’t Fully Land (for me at least) Some emotional beats could hit harder with more time to breathe.

The worldbuilding is intriguing, but I found myself wanting a little more texture in certain scenes — especially with stakes this cosmic.

Overall If you’re into YA fantasy, angel/demon mythology, or stories where an ordinary kid gets swept into something impossibly huge, this book scratches that itch. It’s fast, dramatic, and sets up a world that feels like it has much more to reveal. I’d call it a great pick for readers who love stories about identity, destiny, and the blurry line between good and evil.

The night she disappeared

I have VERY MIXED FEELINGS with this book. like holy.. crapola granola this is.. UGH! Okay strap in for my review cause.. IM NOT HONESTLY HAPPY WITH THIS BOOK

Got it? Good. SOOOOO. Before we get into the PLOT lets talk about the book itself and why i'm disappointed in it.

1. this book WASTES PAPER! I counted 4 blank pages! FOUR!

2. Why is book in arcs? I understand this is a 'lockdown' book as stated in the acknowledgements however are you writing a BOOK or a SCREENPLAY! If this even became a movie i wouldn't even PAY FOR A TICKET.

3. the page numbers not matching the chapter it supposed to be on..I know some people do this, but skipping numbers cause of somthing like acknowledgements a page saying how many books ahead of X book. Ill tolerate that.. but skipping numbers..at chapters...it BOTHERED ME.

okay im done ranting about the negatives ..onto the semi positive the plot. The plot is.. decent if your into the hunt a killer mysteries.

2017: 19 year old Tallulah is going out on a date, leaving her baby with her mother, Kim. Kim watches her daughter leave and, as late evening turns into night, which turns into early morning, she waits for her return. And waits. The next morning, Kim phones Tallulah's friends who tell her that Tallulah was last seen heading to a party at a house in the nearby woods called Dark Place. She never returns.

2019: Sophie (The protag and idiot of this story If you dont believe me look at goodreads) is walking in the woods near the boarding school where her boyfriend has just started work as a head-teacher when she sees a note fixed to a tree.

'DIG HERE' . . .

It's a cold case, with an abandoned mansion, family trauma and dark secrets lie at the heart of Lisa Jewell's novel. I was into it with that mindset.. and figured it out who the person was BEFORE I FINISHED THE BOOK! Would i recommend this book? Debatable.. Would i ever reread it..No. Why? ITS A TOO EASY OF A WHO DONE IT?! HUNT A KILLER IS BETTER THAN THIS BOOK! 3/10
