It’s time for me to finally read the crowd favorite of my book vote: East of Eden. I’m really excited about this one and have decided to take No Book Left Behind to the next level. Instead of staying off of only social media, I’m also going to stay away from TV (any by TV I mean Netflix, obviously). ‘What?! Libby, you’re crazy! You’ll never be able to do it!’ I know, I know, my life is truly a wild ride. But the sooner I read this, the sooner I can go back to binge watching Schitt’s Creek and Gilmore Girls (I really don’t how I got sucked into the latter. It all happened so fast and I appreciate your support during this difficult time). Anyway, here we go. *Characters: You’ll notice that the cover shows a young man and a young woman. But before seeing the cover, I thought it was only about a young man, so I’ll stick with that so I’m not cheating! If there’s one thing I remember about my high school chemistry class, it’s that cheating is frowned upon. So, a young man in his...20’s, a bunch of stuck-in-their-ways townsfolk who are loving but ignorant, and, as seems to be the pattern, that damn mouthy mockingbird. *Setting: Somewhere in the Midwest in the 1950’s. I was going to say during The Great Depression but I’m pretty sure that’s Grapes of Wrath (which is still on my list). *Main point of conflict: a curious young man must leave Eden, a seemingly perfect example of small-town America to find himself. But which way should he go? West? South? East? *How it ends: the man decides to go North of Eden, instead.
