C: THAT'S NOT THE GOAL. A: Aww, stop being so shy. You do want that~ C: THE GOAL IS TO KEEP ME MOTIVATED AND MAKE ME LESS SHY. A: And your little bi heart is easily distracted by pretty guys and girls. Getting you a partner will help~ C: UGH. YOU'RE THE WORST.
@mod: how did you "accidentally" buy a steel sword?
I mean I was going to go to a little thing I like to call sleep but I guess I’m kinda obligated to answer this now so,,,
sit back and relax, cuz we’re going back three years, to about March of 2015, my freshman year, about two months before the next con I would be going to.
in case you knew me back then, you would know that I was very much A Weeb. I was pulling together a cosplay of a special outfit a character wears in an ending in the anime Free! so, yes, it’s a one-time costume, but it’s pretty as heck, so of course I’m going to recreate it to the best of my ability.
so this outfit includes, as you may have guessed, a sword. just a simple scimitar, nothin too complicated. I would’ve bought a toy one at a Halloween store, but, as stated previously, it was, unfortunately, the middle of March. I’d have to settle for scavenging for one online.
somehow, my searches lead to a rather cheap yet professional-looking website. the vast selection of swords and knives it offered apparently did nothing to alert me to the fact that, in fact, it was a website that sold very real weapons. (and trust me, I honest to god wish I could tell y’all what it was called, but I looked through all my emails and searched google for it, but this website was either rebranded or it just straight-up yote outta existence) nevertheless, I found a nice, realistic-looking sword that fit what I was looking for, and for only $20. I bought it.
about a week later, this long-ass package comes in the mail. when my mom passes it on to me, I notice that it’s surprisingly heavy, but I pay it no mind. I open the package and remove the sword from its box to see how it handles – and instantaneously realize that the thing in my hand is very much steel and very much a murder weapon.
I freak out. just a little.
my mother also freaks out, but to a lesser degree. after coming to terms with the fact that I was able to buy a real-life motherfucking sharp steel sword online for the low, low price of $20.00, we pack it back into the box and ship it back to the hell company I bought it from. because of its weight, I’m fairly certain it actually cost more to return it than to buy it.
I ended up getting a fake plastic sword from amazon well before the con, but that company wouldn’t stop pestering me with ads and emails for a solid year after I bought The Mistake. think I may have even gotten some discounts.
so, uh, if I ever figure out what that website was, and if any o y’all are looking for some cheap weaponry, hit me up.
