Bookish asks: 15-18 :)
15: What book changed your life?
Absolutely 100% the Royal Diaries series published by Scholastic. These cemented my interest in history and definitely contributed to my decision to become a history teacher when I grew up. I probably wouldn’t have pursued other history-centric material with the same zeal if my mom hadn’t gotten me Elizabeth I: Red Rose of the House of Tudor, England 1544 for Christmas in 1999.
16: If you could bring three books to a deserted island which would you bring and why?
How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman for obvious practical reasons.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams because it never fails to make me laugh.
The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro because it is my favorite book of all time.
17: If you owned a bookshop what would you call it?
The Dusty Tome. It would obviously be a used bookshop.
18: Which character from a book is the most like you?
Elinor Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility. She’s practical and reserved and often called upon to comfort others despite often being accused of not understanding deep feelings just because she chooses not to share hers with others. I may over-identify with that.
