Bandai 1:144 Booster Unit S-Gundam plastic model from Gundam Sentinel photoset May 19th, 2021
It’s hard to believe that this model kit is from 1988! For its time, this level of quality is far above the typical Gundam kits from the ‘80s. I thought this kit was from the mid-’90s.
Paints were the standard Mr. Color Gundam colors for blue, white, red, and yellow. Pretty straightforward. The rifle is nice, but I added some lenses from Wave’s H-Eyes to improve detail. The power hose from the rifle to the leg is Wave’s black A-Spring.
There are no clear parts for the eyes, so I had to reproduce the face part using Oyumaru plastic clay and UV-curing resin. I used a 1.5mm butterfly LED to light the eyes and a 0304 SMD to light the camera in the forehead crest. I decided to add a light to the large boom on the backpack, so I used an white 0805 SMD and painted the light’s surface with clear Tamiya paint, X-25 Clear Green.
The large booster packs are nice and hollow, so they were easy to light up. Each engine bells have a cluster of four nozzles each, which I drilled out and inserted 1mm fiber optic strands. Four strands were fed into a 3mm blue LED, so there were two LEDs per pack. The two engine nozzles in the butt area are two 2mm blue LEDs.
