What if instead of Star and Marco being trapped in Booth Buddies, it was Star and Tom?

Hear me out on this one. Even when I was a die hard starco fan, I still hated the episode because it made me feel their relationship started in a bad place. Kissing your best friend, who's dating your other best friend? That's messed up.

Instead, Marco manages to successfully slip away, and instead Star tries to recreate the photo with Tom. It isn't going well because Star keeps saying they don't feel right, but Tom says they look fine and that he really wants to try some pie. They try a couple of more times but Star is still feeling off put by the photos and Tom being fed up (and really wanting pie), decides to leave the booth but discovers they're trapped. The weird gnome dude isn't letting them out until they get through their issues and it forces them to talk.

Tom reveals that he knows about how Star confessed to Marco at the party through a mutual friend (who will remain secret for now) and this either leads to them cleaning the air and reconciling, or is the first domino to the end of their relationship. What do you guys think?

I turned in an assignment the other day vaguely discussing the music in “Booth Buddies” and how amazing it is without stating “btw, this music is from a cartoon”😂

Well, I expected awkward shipping shenanigans, and that’s what I got.

I did actually like the episode, despite the impression I might have left with my dissertation about the blood moon. Awkward teenagers are gonna awkward teenager, and laying all the cards on the table was something Star and Marco very much needed to do.

Tomorrow I’m packing to spend the weekend with my family, so the next Adventure Time liveblog will be on Monday. Cya then!

You know, I gotta say that the blood moon kinda kills Starco for me.

It’s already not my favorite ship since it’s so perfunctory. Tomco is my OTP, even though I know there’s approximately a 0% chance of that ever becoming canon. Tomstar has some good chemistry too, and MarKelly is pretty cute, even if it hasn’t gotten much screen time. Jackie I just liked as a character in her own right, and now that she’s broken up with Marco, she’s all-but out of the show and I miss her.

But the Blood Moon just makes it feel like the whole conversation about shipping is pointless, because Starco is predestined. Predestination is already a lazy writing tool, but it’s especially intrusive when talking about relationships.

It feels like no matter what happens, no matter how the characters naturally change on their own, they’re always going to be shackled to fate’s favorite ship, and it’s the most BORING ship in the show! 

Initially, Star and Marco were at their best when they balanced each other out. Marco was the voice of reason for Star, and Star pulled Marco out of his comfort zone. Over time, that’s evolved into some genuine character development for both of them, with Star becoming more levelheaded and Marco becoming more open to new things. They don’t “need” each other the same way they used to, and there are a lot of interesting directions their relationship could go from that point, but one of them isn’t, “Welp, I guess we’re a couple now.”

Ah, well. Maybe it won’t be as bad as all that, but I’ll just have to see how it plays out.
