Okay... it's not an excuse. It's a choice - to not do backflips and stress myself to the point of suicidal thoughts, and wear down my already broken body participating in "the grind" to reach an arbitrary measure of success based on money and rank, instead of just having a job that pays my bills and otherwise being content with a quiet life with my pets and my hobbies.

To be totally transparent, I have a spouse who pays the bills, but I didn't always. I used to pay my own bills. I was a cashier, I had an excellent work ethic, and I was content with my life. I often heard, "Content isn't good enough!" Well, here's a secret: Content is fine.

I hate bootstrap culture.
