Gogol Bordello Bring Good Times to the Space at Westbury on Wednesday
Led by charismatic singer-guitarist Eugene Hütz, Gogol Bordello have been bringing their winning brand of gypsy punk and world music to the masses since forming on the Lower East Side around the turn of the millennium. Violinist Sergey Ryabtsev, bassist Thomas Gobena, percussionist-singer Pedro Erazo-Segovia, guitarist Boris Pelekh, drummer Alfredo Ortiz and singer Ashley Tobias flesh out the seven-piece. And while Gogol Bordello (above, doing “Start Wearing Purple” and “Pala Tute” at last year’s Lowlands festival) are known for upbeat, energetic live performances—with a cabaret feel—on big stages, like Bonnaroo, they still manage to find time to record new material. “This is music born of all countries that holds none as its own,” said AllMusic of the band’s seventh album. “Seekers and Finders [stream it here] is as riotous, poignant and fun as anything by Gogol Bordello.” Join in on that fun when they bring their 20th-anniversary tour to the Space at Westbury on Wednesday night. Nu Folk Rebel Alliance get the party started, opening the show.
