Born on July 22, 1882- US painter Edward Hopper who created iconic works that often displayed stark subjects poignantly depicting a sense of isolation (Nighthawks, Rooms by the Sea, House by the Railroad, Lighthouse Hill, August in the City, Automat, Early Sunday Morning, Office at Night, Room in New York, Night Window, Gas, Tables for Ladies, Office in a Small City, Sun in an Empty Room, Second Story Sunlight, The Mansard Roof, Road in Maine, People in the Sun).  

Hopper’s work influenced others such as Alfred Hitchcock who wanted Hopper’s work in the landscape but also wanted Norman Bates to come across as a subject in a Hopper painting.
