Still Dean's POV:
9 hours later we were in another hospital meeting another doctor in another office, far away from home.
- "And what does that mean?"
I looked up from the laptop at Sam and then I turned my gaze to Bela. Well, former "Bela Talbot". Our gorgeous friend-enemy who was supposed to be dead and in hell. But it turned out she had found a way to save her ass (as always) and now she was in front of me as "Dr. Rose Cohen", all safe and sound.
- "That means Y/N wasn't the target. Alastair was just chasing your kid so he hired a shapeshifter who could go to her kindergarten and take the child to him."
She explained and I checked the video again. I still couldn't believe my eyes. It just looked so surreal. On the screen there were two faces, a strange little one with big bright eyes and blonde hair, innocent and perfect and yet looking like a mixture of me and her: Y/N! The other face; the familiar one who according to Bela actually didn't belong to my Y/N!
- "This is just … unbelievable!" I muttered and felt a sting in my heart again.
- "I know, Dean. I'm sorry!"
She told me and by the look on her face I could tell she was sincere. What an unexpected behavior from someone like Bela!
- "But how do you know? "
Sam crossed his arms on the chest, focusing his gaze on Bela.
- " … How do you know what happened to Y/N and the whole thing about her and Dean and Alastair? I mean; up until now we were pretty sure you were dead!"
- "Well, technically I am! The "Bela Talbot" who you used to know is pretty dead. I'm "Dr. Rose Cohen" now. The head Gynaecologist of this hospital!"
- "What?!"
Me and Sam asked in sync while I couldn't stop my sneer and Sam didn't fight his frown.
- "I know! But believe me, it's true!"
She looked at us and to be honest somehow I believed her but Sam threw up his hands in a surrender gesture.
- "Ok, but still it doesn't answer my questions …"
- "Actually it does. Y/N is one of my patients!"
I almost chocked on my tongue when Bela said that. Was she out of her mind? Because that meant …
- "She is here?"
I couldn't stop my words and Bela carelessly rolled her eyes in response.
- "I've told you she is."
- "We thought it's just a guess."
Sam said hesitantly, looking at me with wide eyes.
- "Oh, please! If I wasn't sure enough why would I get you two involved in this? Obviously I never wanted to ruin my peace! "
- "Ok, let's say you don't lie. But seriously. Why do you care?"
I asked. This whole thing still could be a joke or a misunderstanding. Or even a filthy game that Bela wanted to play for God knew why! So I held my suspicions gaze on her eyes that apparently made her nervous and even a little sad?!
- "Maybe because you care too."
She said with a broken smile, going to her desk and grabbing a file to give it to me.
- "Check it out."
As I opened the file, the first thing I saw was a personal photo of Y/n on a patient information card with some of her blood test history, medical records and ultrasound reports back to … 5 years ago… When she was pregnant!
- "You were the doctor who helped her through the childbirth?!"
I mumbled under my breath, somehow getting emotional.
- "Yes, and it wasn't an easy one. We had to do a c-section. The baby was in danger but she was stront enough to survive."
Bela said softly and handed me her phone which there was this photo of Y/N on the hospital bed, holding our daughter in her arms while Bela and some other hospital personnel were standing around the bed with big smiles on their faces.
- "Y/N asked us to take this happy photo. You know? like we are her family. She didn't want her baby to feel alone on her birthday so we decided to throw a party here for them. It brought us closer and we become friends. I have to admit she's always been such a strong woman. After a while she got a job and built a new life here. It wasn't so easy but she was happy to have this baby. She never had regrets about it. But then … after what happened to her child, she literally lost it. She was ruined. A crying sad mess who didn't believe in anything anymore. Three months later she got worse: panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, pale skin with eye bags. Her therapist had to give her some strong medicine to make her get some sleep but it didn't work, eventually six months ago she had a heart attack. A bad one. Still lucky enough to arrive at the hospital on time and she survived. But …"
She went silent and I held my breath in anxiety.
- "But?"
Sam asked for me, staring at my hands which were slightly shaking.
- "We still don't exactly know how but she lost some of her memories. Jack, our cardiologist and Charlie, her therapist both think it's her brain's temporary reaction to help her through depression but as a friend I couldn't just sit and do nothing while she's gonna ruin her life thoughtlessly."
Bela knew something.. something that she couldn't even dare to talk about directly and I could spot it with the way she just refused to look us in the eyes.
- "What's she gonna do?"
I asked without hesitation, raising from where I was sitting while hundreds of horrible possibilities were running through my mind. Sam got close to me and put his hand on my shoulder in a protective move. And Bela just sighed and grabbed a sheet out of the file I was still holding open in my hands. Then she held it in the air in front of our curios eyes.
- "She wants to have an IVF baby!"
- "What?!" Sam frowned again while my eyes could burn a hole on that sheet.
- "With a sperm donor?"
I almost chocked on my words, feeling how my neck and ears started to get red.
- "Yeah, she's hopeless and can't handle her baby's grief. So she stupidly wants to replace her with a new one which I don't think is a good idea!"
I swallowed the lump which was forming in my throat. I couldn't bear thinking about how much pain she was in. I couldn't even imagine how mecilessly she'd been hurt. While it was all my fault. If it wasn't for me, Alastair would never want to bother her and she could have a normal life, a normal apple pie life with her kid. She would never be like this. Sad, hopeless, defenceless … But I just happened to her and ruined everything in her life. Just like a wrecking ball!
- "Dean?"
I looked up at Sammy who just patted me on the shoulder.
- "Yeah?" I replied mindlessly.
- "I asked what do you think?!" Bela raised her eyebrows at me, making me realize I was probably lost in my thoughts when apparently they've carried out the discussion.
- "About what?"
I had to ask which made Sam look at me with that familiar pity in his eyes before turning his gaze to Bela.
- "Why you don't give my brother a break while I go grab some coffee? We had a long ride today and it's not surprising he's too tired to concentrate on all this too-much-to-digest information."
I spotted a mild threatening tone in his voice. Seemed like his baby-bro- protective-mood was so on.
- "Yeah, okay."
Bela simply agreed and shrugged her shoulders. But as soon as Sam was out of the room, I looked at Bela again.
- "What were you two talking about?"
As she opened her mouth, her phone rang and a name poped on the screen: "Y/N"!
- "Oh!"
I held my trembling voice back and Bela just looked at me with her index finger on her lips, montining me to remain silent.
- "Y/N?"
- "Hey, Rose. How are you doing?"
My heart raced at hearing her voice. It hadn't changed at all. After all these years, after all we've been through I still could've felt how it still filled my cold existence with excitement and warmth.
- "Good, how are you?"
- "I'm not sure. We had a bad argument in the morning which turned into an actual fight and now my stupid heart just don't stop beating like crazy. I feel like I have a panic attack on it's way and I'm running out of breath too. I just thought … maybe … if you're still in the hospital, can you check on me?"
My mouth hanged open. She was so close. Once again I could feel the dagger inside my chest by hearing the pain in her voice.
- "Of course. But where are you? I can visit you at home if …"
- "No, I'm in the corridor actually, I can see your room's door from here which I'm not sure if I can make it that far."
- "Shit!"
Bela muttered under her breath. And I was almost shut down by knowing how close she was.
- "Ok, Y/n! Just let me open the door for you."
I knew Bela was bluffing. The door was not locked.
- "Ok, Here Winchester!"
She pulled me behind this big white partition which was beside the examination bed.
- "This is not a good time for you to see her so please don't move and don't make a noise until I figure this out, ok?"
I nodded and she silently pointed at the mirror on the wall, reminding me to be careful about that too. I took a deep breath and as the door opened I sat behind the partition.
- "Y/n!"
Bela went to greet her and I just found this little blank space between the two parts of the partition to wtach her through, without getting in trouble.
- "Rosie, I …"
She breathed out and I stared at her slightly taller figure from behind. Bela just reached to hold her before she stumbled.
- "Hey, just relax. Let's sit on the bed, ok?"
Y/n obeyed. As Bela helped her to get her black leather jacket off, she was left in a deep v neck maroon lace blouse and a pair of skinny black ripped jeans with high heel boots. Now she was just two feets away from me and I could feel how much my body was aching to just touch her again. I had been missing her with my whole existence. Every fiber, every cell wanted her back in my arms.
- "Rose, I can't …"
She tried to tell as Bela pushed her slightly down, making her lay down on the bed. My eyes grew wide by surprise at how extremely pale and tired she looked. Then her eyes flattered close suddenly.
- "Y/n?! … y/n? Can you hear me?"
Bela asked but no one answered.
- "Damn it!"
She mumbled, putting her fingers on her wrist, taking her pulse. And just as I'd started to freak out, she called me:
- "Come here, Dean. She's out. I need your help."
- "What should I do?"
I asked as soon as I got to the feet of the bed. Bela looked up at me through her eyelashes while I couldn't even tore my gaze away from staring at y/n.
- "First help me get ride of her clothes. I need to monitor her heart!"
- "Me?"
- "I don't know, Dean. Is there anyone else around here to help?"
She asked and it took me a few seconds to understand what was going on. So I just moved closer.
- "Here, keep her upper body up while I get her ready."
I did as Bela was cutting through her maroon top with a scissor.
- "She's gonna hate me for that."
She commented while my eyes fell on y/n's body. She was much more skinnier than what I'd expected. Her ribs were visible to see under her skin.
- "What are you waiting for?"
I blinked at Bela's voice, looking at her blankly.
- "What?"
- "Unhook her bra. Y/n will murder me if I dare to cut it!"
To be fair that well trained black laced bra looked so fansy and expensive against her skin but right now I couldn't care less about it. When I unhooked her bra with just one hand and Bela carefully removed it I could see how her breasts were almost two sizes larger. There were some faint stretch marks here and there and her belly slightly looked bigger too.
- "Ok, now lay her down."
I did as what Bela asked while she brought out a stethoscope from the drawer next to the bed. Then she focused on examining y/n's heart.
- "Oh, girl!"
- "What?"
I frowned in concern.
- "Nothing, can you bring me the oxygen cylinder? It should be somewhere around the desk."
- "Sure."
I moved fast, getting more nervous about what was happening to Y/N. Hands were obviously trembling now.
- "Ok, Dean. Now put the mask on her mouth and make sure she breath through it. Normally we don't keep cylinders here. But this one's band was screwed up so lucky for Y/n I let them put it here temporarily but unfortunately for you, you have to keep it on her mouth until I find something to replace the band."
I nodded and looked at Bela who was talking without even looking at us, she was too busy pulling a medical machine near the bed.
- "Is she dying?"
I mumbled under my breath out of the blue, before even my mind decided to ask that question.
- "Of course not! Just do as I said. I'm just gonna call our cardiologist to come here and check her."
I nodded again as I immediately put the mask on Y/n's mouth. When Bela came over and opened cylinder vale after checking things and setting the pressure, y/n took a sudden loud shaky breath and her eyes half opened.
- "Y/n?!"
I couldn't help my miserable moan while Bela was professionally calm:
- "Take it easy, honey. We're good."
But still y/n was somehow off. It was like she couldn't see us even with her half open eyes. She was shaking, trying to get rid of the mask and me as if she was drowning in a pool or something.
- "No, no!"
She stated breathlessly, breaking out in a cold sweat.
- "No, honey! Calm down!"
Bela reached out to help me when y/n's arms jerked out, fighting to get rid of us!
- "Y/N! … No Y/N, stop it!"
I yelped, locking my arms around her body when I realized she could throw herself off of the bed and get hurt.
- "Just look at me. I'm here, I'm with you!"
I softly shook her in my arms, trying to make her feel my presence while she wasn't even in her right mind. Although it eventually worked and she finally calmed down.
- "Yeah, just like that, sweetheart."
I whispered before I took a breath in her hair, feeling the scent of her shampoo, I carefully laid her down on the bed. This time she was looking at me. Still with half open eyes.
- "It's ok, Y/n. I'll stay with you. I promise that."
I mumbled and squeezed her cold fragil fingers while my heart shattered again by the way she was blankly staring at me, probably without having an idea who I could be.
- "Ok, y/n. Now just take some deep and calm breaths. Can you do this for me?"
Bela told her when I put the mask back on her mouth. She slowly blinked once in reply and I gently kissed her forehead, when a tear dropped down her eye.
- "Now we should take off all her metal jewelry, coins, phone and her boots and socks. As she seems calm now, can you help me?"
Well, I did. Bela went for her boots and socks and I took off her brand new little shinny earrings and necklace. It kind of broke my heart that she wasn't wearing the old gold necklace which I had gifted her some years ago.
- "Take these too."
Handing me her phone and her cute mermaid key chain which were in y/n's pockets, Bela pointed to her oxygen mask.
- "Can you keep an eye on her breathing until I get done with this?"
I nodded, putting Y/n's stuff in my large pockets.
- "Ok then. First I should use some gel to place the electrodes on her skin. Then we can start the device."
I was drowned in watching y/n while Bela was busy doing her medical process which was talking to some other doctor on the phone and putting some latex gloves on.
Y/n was still pale and looked super tired but at least she was breathing better. I could see how her chest and belly was moving with each deep breath.
- "Yeah, just like that, y/n. Keep it calm and steady!"
Bela encouraged her when she was done with her phone call, pulling the ECG device closer to the bed but Y/n's eyes flattered close again.
- "What's wrong?"
I questioned impatiently, feeling like somebody was cutting my air way.
- "We'll see, Winchester. It takes time."
Bela calmly said, rubbing some gel on y/n's chest, making me think about how much her body had changed: bigger breasts, bolder nipples, stretch marks and a bigger belly … it was all on me. She was pregnant with my child and she had given birth to my child. Near the edge of her Jeans waist, I could see half of her c-section scar: Still red and fresh-looking.
I was pulled out of my thoughts by a new voice in the room: knocks on the door.
- "Are you there, Cohen?"
It belonged to a man.
- "Yes, Jack. Come on in!"
Bela said, after she started the device.
A man in a white coat entered the room, glancing at me, Bela and then y/n. He was in his late 40s but still looked handsome. He had dark brown hair, penetrating wise eyes and clean shaven face.
- "What happened?"
He asked, immediately walking around the bed to stand beside Bela, closer to the device and y/n both.
- "That's what I need to know too!"
Bela explained and while both of them were staring at the ECG records, I could read his nametag: "Dr. Jack Sheppard (Cardiologist)" He had his hands on his waist, concern written all over his face.
-"What's it?"
My question hanged in the air when his gaze roamed on my face and clothes and the way I was keeping the mask on y/n's mouth.
- "Who are you?"
Apparently I got him curious.
- "I'm Dean …"
- "He's an old friend."
Bela cut me, faking a smile. Jack nodded. Frown on the face, he ripped out the record, focusing his attention on all those lines and waves.
- "This look no good."
He breathed out. Then put the records away and started to examine y/n. It was hard enough for me to bear with the fact he could lay his eyes on Y/n's unconscious form while she was topless. So I looked away when he put his palm under her left breast and the other on her neck.
I threw Bela an angry look and she just shrugged.
- "Be careful with that mask. She still needs it."
Jack reminded. I chew on my bottom lip and pressed the mask down a little more, by anger!
Now his stethoscope was on her chest.
- "This sounds no good either."
Bela stared back at me over Jack's shoulders. Her hand massaging her neck nervously.
- "What does that mean?"
- "Well, we should transfer her to cardio ward. I need to run some tests and do an echo to be sure."
Bela nodded.
- "So I'm calling Ash to send us an stretcher."
But on her way, she stopped to squeeze my arm.
- "Then you can go take some air. I don't need another friend on the hospital bed."
I rolled my eyes
- "I'm good, Rosie!"
I mockingly emphasized on her fake name which made her narrow her eyes on me.
- "If looking like hell means good, then you are!"
- "Yeah, I think I'm always hot!"
I smiled as she was the one who rolled her eyes this time, walking off.
- "I've never knew she had a friend like you!"
Jack commented, making me chuckle humorlessly.
- "Well, we are not exactly friends."
I admitted, feeling a weird tension in the air. And Jack, … with those built up arms locked on his chest and that strange look in his dark eyes, he didn't seemed friendly either.
- "So you're like … her new assistant or something?"
- "An assistant? For a Gynaecologist?"
I laughed at how impossible it sounded to a hunter like me. The one who never could have a random safe job.
- "Sounds like porn. You know? That could be my dream job but trust me, doc. I'm not that lucky."
I continued, watching Y/n, thinking about how happy we could be if only I wasn't a hunter.
- "So … is her life in danger?"
Sad and worried, I shifted my gaze to Jack's thoughtful face.
- "Not for now. But somethings are complicated."
I was going to ask what he meant but Sam interrupted us:
- "What's going on here?"
I looked over my shoulder to my brother but before I could say anything Bela was back.
- "It's a hospital, Sam. What did you expect to happen?"
Then she came over and stood beside me.
- "Now, if you don't mind, gentlemen. May I ask you to leave our office. I got a patient here to take care of."
I sighed, and stood when Bela took my place and held Y/n's mask.
- "I got her, Dean. It's ok."
But I couldn't just leave Y/n's side. I couldn't let her slip away from me again.
- "Dean?"
Sam called me from behind and I looked at Y/n once again.
"Please wake up. Don't do this, y/n!"
I prayed with tight lips and left the room, Sam was on my heels.
- "Hey, wait up"
I stopped and turned around to face him. He was staring at me, shocked.
- "Was that … Y/n?"
I took a deep breath, looking down at the coffee cups in his hands. I nodded as I stole one of the cups away from him.
- "Yeah" And I drank a mouthful gulp.
- "What the hell, Dean? Do you really think this idea will actually work?"
- "What idea?"
Now it was me who was staring.
- "Bela's: You as the sperm donor for Y/N's IVF baby?"
My eyes grew wide in surprise. Was this what I missed before Sam left the room to buy coffee? The thing that Bela wanted to know my opinion about?
- "What?!"
My mouth hanged open in disbelief. How could this even cross Bela's mind? And how could this fix my mistakes for Y/n?
- "What do you mean by "what"? Isn't Y/N here for that?"
Sam was now a confused moose, pissed by how much everything seemed wrong. I laughed sadly.
- "No, dude. The whole thing is a bad accident. She's probably having a panic attack mixed with a heart one. So she came over to get checked by Bela. I mean … Rose! But then she just passed out there."
-"Shit!" He ran a hand down his face and I put my hand on my forehead, feeling a headache on it's way.
- "Hey, are you ok?" I felt his hand on his shoulder but before I could response, a girlish phone ring interrupted me. It was coming out of … my pocket?!
- "Is that yours?" Sam frowned in confusion and I just quickly pulled the phone out to realize that It was actually Y/n's phone which I earlier had to put in my pocket. But as soon as I looked down at the screen, my heart dropped in my stomach. She had saved the caller in her phone as: "My Love ♡" With a profile picture of a stranger man who was hugging her while both of them had this big smiles on their lips.
- "Wha--Who is that?!" Even Sam couldn't stop his reaction.
- "Should be the luckiest man in the whole world!" I mumbled to myself, feeling that damn dagger twisting in my heart.
