#SUPPORTARTISTS Regrann from @rebelnottaken - Happy Days😁Monster thanks to the talented and hilarious Amsterdam-based street artist @bortuskleer for painting some joyous, funny money for inclusion in our incredible Cash is King book. Bortusk describes himself as a ‘professional idiot’ and has created a little army of anarchic, gurning dayglo monsters that run riot over seemingly serious adult urban spaces whist gleefully announcing popular and disarmingly comic mantras such as ‘cheer up you bastards’ and ‘don’t be a cunt’👹Travels in India have influenced Bortusk Leer’s psychedelic use of colour and this together with the ‘naive’ outsider art vibe of the eccentric work is evident in the recent 60 ft long mural that he installed to the amusement and delight of the gathering audience at this months fantastic Nuart Aberdeen street-art festival. #bortuskleer #artcomedy #pasteupart #streetart #graffitiart #aberdeenstreetart #nuart #nuartfestival #stavanger #Amsterdam #monsterart #cheerup #cheerupyoubastards #naiveart #outsiderart #smile #rebelnottaken #bobosborne #madinengland #carriereichardt #cashisking #psychedelicart #dayglow #artistsoninstagram

BUT EVEN MORE exciting is the fact that Bortusk took advantage of the pretty weather today to paint the first mural in our permission wall project!!! WOW, how major, how very, very major for us and the neighborhood, I daresay. Here is some timelapse of the mural in progress...thanks Bortusk, thanks MONSTERS IN NEW YORK!
Have a great night everyone!
The Superchief Gallery At Culturefix Presents:
Bortusk Leer
MONSTERS IN NEW YORK
Solo Exhibition
Exhibit Dates: 6/10 through 6/16
Opening Reception: 6/14 6-11pm
We are happy to present the first New York solo show by UK artist Bortusk Leer. Bortusk burst onto the street art scene in 2007 with naively spray-painted and marker penned psychedelic monsters and characters. These characters have become a common sight on the streets of London, Amsterdam, Barcelona and countless other European cities. They have made their way around the globe by air, sea and land to far flung places such as India, Australia, Cambodia, New Zealand and of course the good old USA, (where they have popped up in New York, Seattle and Alaska to name but a few.)
They are always having fun in whatever surroundings they might find themselves!
Bortusk has named his style “art comedy” and dedicates himself along with a growing team of admirers andpasters to spreading the smiley faced, lolling tongued, and googly eyed LOVE around the world. Bortusk’s heavily satirical work and recognizable paste ups using newspaper as the support and method of spreading his own message, highlights an ongoing concern to challenge the idea of traditional mass media and mass produced objects. These acts of mischievous sabotage using obsolete objects and materials represent in fact another unconventional choice of his to use low-tech procedures to emphasis the often-ephemeral nature and lifespan of these randomly applied paste-ups within our urban landscape.
With this show you are invited to experience it as an opportunity to step out of the doom and gloom of your daily routines. An exhilarating mixture between a funfair, cartoon and rave party feel, the show’s only intention is to put a smile on your face and brighten up your day!
