how many bad decisions can one person make in an evening
BOSHISHI
01. Name: Boshishi02. Best friend: Very good friends with Odoke and Kyuuri. He couldn't choose a bestie!03. Sexuality: Straight04. Favorite color: White05. Relationship status: Single06. Ideal mate: Someone outgoing and a little more energetic, to complement his withdrawn personality (same as back in the day, except that would be because he'd want somebody who'd be able to keep up with him!).07. Turn-ons: None, NO08. Favorite food: Rice09. Crushes: None10. Favorite music: Traditional Japanese music, especially on the biwa. Enka maybe even?11. Biggest fear: The extermination of yokai or their erasure from the public consciousness. Though he's still also afraid of one day "losing it" again and going on another rampage.12. Biggest fantasy: Balance being restored to the world, primarily that between man and nature/the supernatural.13. Bad habits: Staring, like spooky empty staring without realizing he's doing it; telling white lies or fibbing when he doesn't know an answer for the sake of someone's feelings.14. Biggest regret: Bringing harm to innocent people, on more than one occasion.15. Best kept secrets: Everything about his past that he'd like to forget.16. Last thought: It's about time Kasai arrived...17. Worst romantic experience: one time he got hella drunk and hit on this cute raijin chick and......(though the thing with Kyuuri and Odoke being a BAD FRIEND WORST EAVESDROPPER was kind of awkward and he still feels bad about that :( )18. Biggest insecurity: Being an alien amid Earthen yokai.19. Weapon of choice: He would never use a weapon. If push came to shove, though, he does have his TOUCH OF DEATH20. Role Model: The Buddhist priest he met shortly after ending up on Earth. Kasai too in some respects.
WHAT IS Boshi's reaction to Odoke's thieving ways and what does he truely think of the tofu munching kitsune
Stealing is not a nice thing to do and Boshi doesn't condone it, but if that's what Odoke has to do to get by then he can't hold it against him. In Boshi's mind stealing food from a human is at least better than straight up EATING him.
So in that regard he wishes Odoke could find a way to avoid victimizing humans - and he REALLY wishes Odoke would stop doing it for funsies - since the last thing they need is to give humans more reason to spurn the supernatural. On the other hand he sort of admires Odoke for his ballsiness, and despite the fact that kitsune are deceptive by nature Boshi does place a lot of trust in him. They are friends after all!
In lack of better (because I cannot think of any good asks at the moment), has Boshi ever tried coffee? Or what does he normally drink?
He has never tried coffee, nope! Or soda or wine...maybe beer though (and that would've been by accident, some of his acquaintances like foreign beverages ok). Boshi normally drinks water since it's natural and the easiest drink to come by in the middle of bumfrick nowhere. Sake he tries to reserve for special occasions, temperance being a part of that personal code he follows.
Are there any specific kinds of yokais that Boshishi prefers the company of or is extra wary about?
Since Boshishi is basically "one of them" and since there's really no bad blood between him and any of the other yokai, he doesn't have much to fear from them. Some yokai rub him the wrong way though and he'll try to avoid interacting with them if possible due to conflicting moral codes and the fact that conversations between the two types always tend to take a turn for the awkward. This applies to the more violent yokai who are given to attacking or killing humans (e.g. wanyudo, gashadokuro) but even then he acknowledges that it's their nature and does his best not to judge them for it.
He is 100% down with the company of every other yokai, even prankster kitsune like Odoke and shirikodama-stealing kappa like Kyuuri. He is drawn to those with loud, assertive personality types to complement his own softspoken one (opposites attract!) - oni really fit the bill here, and sometimes tengu. But he also really likes the down-to-earth creatures who just kind of go about their own business, doing their thang, giving humans the willies, that I guess could be classified as "neutral" yokai. Betobeto-san, hitotsume kozo, nopperabo, nurikabe, the various tsukumogami, those kinds of guys that don't harass people in a mean-spirited fashion. And Boshi of course has a high regard for the yokai who help humans, including zashiki warashi, baku and especially kirin like Kasai!
I'm gonna ask you 2 questions: 1) Are there occasions when Boshi needs to go in the big city or is anything modern like that off-limits? Does he have any curiosity at all about the changing world, or is he mostly saddened by it because of the loss of tradition? and 2) "IF" [and by that I mean "when"] Hikiki and Venini become An Item, what are the ways in which Hikiki would show his appreciation/affection toward her? Or is it just in extremely unconventional ways?
1) The big city and all that isn't really "off-limits" per say, but he doesn't enjoy going there or having to interact with anything that was made less than a century ago. The only time Boshi will go to the city of his own free will is to sit and play the biwa on a corner of Alien Street, partially to make a little extra money since the shrine sees so few offerings, and partially because he just likes doing so. He feels more comfortable on Alien Street since it's a lot more tame compared to the hustle and bustle of the actual streets of Tokyo. Otherwise he has to go into the city in order to buy rice, and once in a while his business with the dead takes him there as well (someone will want him to deliver a message to a surviving family member, etc).
Unfortunately Boshi is the opposite of interested in the modern world - he doesn't want anything to do with it, mostly because of the loss of tradition, yes. Which is kind of a shame because it's made him timid and way more of a recluse than he used to be. He just needs to be nudged out of his comfort zone and have a lot of things explained to him (I guess maybe even yokai can have a fear of the unknown??), and then he would probably start to become more accepting of the changes the country's gone through.
2) Hikiki tends to not display those kinds of stronger, more heartfelt emotions - love, happiness, fear, grief, regret - as something of a safety mechanism to avoid appearing vulnerable. That goes double when there's someone he genuinely cares about in the picture since he knows the kind of people he's made enemies with wouldn't think twice about getting back at him by targeting his family instead. So he wouldn't be that incredibly affection towards Venini, no, but there would certainly be a noticeable difference in the way he'd behave around her.
I guess he's kind of always had a thing for pushing her buttons, and that wouldn't change once they became An Item SORRY VENINI. He'd do it more often, but less to get a real rise out of her and more just as playful teasing (i.e. actually dropping it after a minute or so instead of carrying on like an ass until she's about to deck him in the face [not that he minds]). On special occasions Venini might find a litl wooden trinket on her night stand - in his downtime Hikiki does do a bit of carving, as a hobby but now with a little more actual purpose! Other times he'll find something nice and practical to do for her (stealth naginata sharpening? ninja venom re-alphabetizing?? other things that coincidentally involve sneaking into the women's quarters???), and if asked about it will just grin and deny ever having done such a thing.
and I know I said he wouldn't usually make a show of his feelings for her but honestly sometimes doing the tango-dip-smooch in front of an audience gets too good of a reaction for him to pass up :3c
How about Boshi's past? Did he have and GFs or BFs at any point in time? :3c Also what kind of people does he hang out with nowadays?
Boshishi never had any GFs or BFs, naw. He's always been the type to put work before play, even back in the day on Keron; he considers his obligations to be of extreme importance and would feel guilty as hell if he shirked his duties of maintaining the shrine or comforting the dead for selfish purposes. (You could basically look at it like a vow of chastity that works too)
Though obviously this presents a bit of a challenge when it comes to continuing the family line AHEM
Nowadays Boshi's pals are almost exclusively yokai and he does the PARTY HARD thing with them every so often, either on special occasions (Oshougatsu is a pretty big one obv) or just for funsies (when the seasons change, etc). Sometimes they meet out in the middle of the forest where it's 2spooky4humans, and sometimes when Boshi's feeling especially extroverted he'll host a gathering at the shrine. There is a lot of eating and drinking involved. Emphasis on the drinking because he and a lot of his pals are damn good at holding their liquor and when the oni bring the bottomless sake gourds that is when you REALLY better watch out! Also the hyakki yagyou, that is definitely a thing that happens.
He's fairly popular around the cemetery since he's there almost all the time, and so is sort of friends with the residents as well - those who don't have a problem with yokai, anyway. On that note too he's not exactly buddy buddy with the local shrine maiden but they are on okay terms since their last meeting.
