Kasai is the daughter of a Fire Nation General and an Earth Kingdom woman from the island colonies. After her mothers death she and her father find long lost extended family in the Royal Capital. But palace life doesn’t suit young Kasai. Soon rumors spread of her “mixed heritage” and it is difficult for her to fit in with the other Noble daughters.

When she flees the Fire Nation she comes across a quiet rebellion happening outside the Royal city. In the midst of the fighting and uprising, she comes face to face with her father’s firebending teacher, Jeong Jeong. The ex-admiral is hesitant to take on a pupil again, after years of destruction. He is disolusioned by the war and weary, but decides to take on one last pupil….
