From a newly released compilation of the late, great Brazilian Bossa chanteuse
So I´m very happy about this. Around 10 years ago, I decided to make my first solo album in which I would play everything and record it at home. But before I started recording the album proper, I made some pieces to practice the recording process so that the beginning of the learning curve wouldn´t be shown in my first solo release. Now I am working on my fourth solo album and have decided to study mixing so that one day I can mix my own music. I am compiling an album made of some of those first learning curve pieces, which I have decided to remix. I´m very proud of how things are coming along so far. It´s a lot of work, but it is interesting. I expect to release one piece every month; there are about ten or so of them, so wish me luck. Cheers!!!
Bossa muta was made thinking of the Brazilian band Os Mutantes and their Latin pop style called "Tropicalia". Also, I was listening to a lot of John Zorn during that time and that's where the middle eastern influences in the tune come from. But, me being Dominican the rhythm ended up feeling more like a bachata or a tropical bolero of sorts than a bossa...It´s a blend, a, a "fusssion" if you will, as they say...yeah, that´s the ticket :-) So bossa-chata, bolero dark jazz with middle eastern influences? Sure, why not! I have played it live with a backing track in it´s previous version, never got a clap Hahahaha...
