Milton-Bradley's famous 1978 Simon electronic toy was powered by a MP3300NLL microcontroller, a custom variation of the wildly successful Texas-Instruments TMS1000 chip with Simon's software already on board. The TMS1000 line integrated a 0.4 MHz 4-bit CPU and typically included 32 or 64 bytes of RAM and 1-4 KB of storage ROM space. That doesn't seem like much, but it was enough to launch a new generation of computer controlled consumer products—from calculators to toys—in the mid-late 1970s.
