Third Annual TBR Challenge, March 2022
Title: Vespertine (Vespertine #1)
Author/s: Margaret Rogerson
Page count: 393
Rep: Margaret Rogerson answered a Tumblr ask (link) stating that Artemisia, the MC, is aromantic/asexual, although I never discovered any specific mention of it in the text. Rogerson has said (in a Tumblr post that has since been deleted - I found the information on Goodreads [link]) that other characters in the novel are queer [link], and even though said queerness is not discussed in this book, it will be covered later on in the series. Also, it has been speculated that Artemisia is on the autism spectrum/is neurodivergent, but Rogerson has yet to confirm this information[link].
Trigger warnings: Animal abuse, descriptions of past child abuse (both physical and emotional) including confinement and self-harm using fire, body horror, murder (including references to mass murder), blood, anxiety, mental illness, violence, necromancy and possession of human bodies by spirits, religious bigotry, fire and fire-related injuries, self-harm, PTSD, battle scenes, medical content, psychological torture, ableism, minor warnings for bullying, suicide
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1/2 (Four and a half stars out of five)

You’ve heard of Cat-Dog , now get ready for Dog-Dog
If you don’t mind me asking this, but why do you not like to use the term ‘top/bottom’? I’m not trying to be rude, just curious. And because I identify as female and I don’t really feel sexual attraction (which leaves me inexperienced) I’m kinda at a lack of understanding
I don’t mind at all love. Basically, it’s because I find the top/bottom roles toxic, because heterosexual people use them to “grade” the “level of gayness” of someone, and so they deem the “bottom” as “really gay” and direct most of their hate towards them while the “top” is more “real man”, so they get less hate and are deemed “more straight”, like they can be “salvaged” and straight people have an obsession with that, because they are constantly trying to fit same-sex couples into their heterosexual gender roles. Though, I do apologise if I ever made you feel bad about using those terms. I tend to react badly when faced with them and tend to not police myself on it.

Title: Gilded (Gilded #1)
Author/s: Marissa Meyer
Page count: 500
Trigger warnings: Blood, body horror (including a flesh-eating zombie), emotional abuse, gore, grief, pregnancy, animal cruelty (including hunting for sport), animal death, child death, death of parent, murder, violence, confinement, death, kidnapping, slavery, cannibalism (hinted), and abortion threat (not followed through), abandonment, some alcohol use, implied sexual content. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THESE WARNINGS LIGHTLY (especially the blood and gore).
Rep: Hints of a potentially lesbian relationship (minor characters), one of these women is described as being darker-skinned and having once been married to a man (she is widowed). Description of the moss maidens (nymphs) as having varied shades of skin colour.
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 out of 5 stars)
