You’ve already heard what I have to say in dms but
I love what they did with the preexisting kids (esp Monty and Felix that route was top tier I love them so) but the new kids were honestly really mixed for me.
Emmy was great! I love how the very blatant danger of the school feeds into her character. She’s barely hanging on, clinging to her plants almost obsessively as a form of comfort and safety, and when she snaps and kills Cindy it really feels deserved (not that I don’t love Cindy but you can understand why she snapped). She’s my favourite of the new kids.
Austin is just kind of simple? I don’t know if all the hype around him got my expectations up but like, he throws things and he likes Alice. Why? No clue. He’s just kind of there. I still like him, he’s silly and stupid, just not very interesting. Seems the most childlike of any of the kids, which is interesting. I hope if we see him again we learn a lot more about him.
I really like Davey, I found him really fun while playing, but he confuses me. His almost heel turn from ‘hehehe, I’m glad my dad is gone, he sucked and I only need Linda, not upset at all’ to ‘oh nooo, my dad, get out of the way Alice I’m the main character of this game now’ was just too jarring to me, maybe because I didn’t really get the duck bit. But with a little headcannoning I can get over it.
And Alice was just… there. She was way too passive for me. She’s almost like the Lily of this game, with the missing friend and all, but she has 0 drive to save Kevin, she doesn’t trust Regis but just walks to her death without a fight. Her memory issues feel like they SHOULD be the main conflict of the game, but her search is complete in a random route, and didn’t really answer any meaningful questions. Like, she was kidnapped and moved to another school. We could have guessed that. And it kind of links in to my Davey point that she gets sidelines in the search to save Kevin. I just think we could have had more from her, I want to know more about here.
Kevin means nothing to me btw, probably bc Alice is seemingly the only one who even knows him and she’s not bothered that he’s missing. Sorry Kevin.
Overall I really liked the game! It was fun (even if the controls were very slippery) and I do love the characters, especially how they built on all the guys we know very well.
