Curious as to your thoughts on the Cambridge utd documentary. I'm not sure how I'd feel about it if it were rovers but I do see the potential positives as well

It’s a weird one to me. They’re starting from now, i.e., with what’s all but mathematically certain to be relegation, and it doesn’t sound like the scope is gonna be long enough to capture much of a hoped-for triumphant charge straight back up. Which is… rough, narratively, if you’re seeking to use this to build the club’s brand (sigh)/sell it to a new audience?

Maybe they’re going for a kind of reverse Welcome to Wrexham, “Chocolate-box posh town rallies round its pack of doomed plucky tryhards” type of narrative. Which would of course be reductive as fuck, but from what I can see the concept for this project goes heavy on Cambridge as it exists in popular stereotype (twee, rich, scholarly) rather than what the place is actually like (greatest income inequalities in the UK, open-minded, struggling to evolve). And “gown Cambridge” really has strikingly little to do with the football club on the whole, so unless you were gonna spin a story about how and why that’s come about, which I kinda really doubt they are, it’s a bit of a reach drawing a lineage from the modern club back to the 1840s Cambridge University football club and its set of written rules for playing the game, by some measures football’s first.

Anyway as a fellow veteran of the not-much-good-at-all that All Or Nothing did for spurs you can prob imagine the reservations I have about the impact on the team and staff, but I guess if it’s a route to more cash into the club, well, it’s going to be needed.

Oh but fun fact: atm the club’s biggest non-UK following on social is from Brazil, because the badge prominently says ‘CU’ on it and in Brazilian portuguese that means arse. They’re changing the badge as part of this rebrand, so will have to replace this contingent. It all starts to fall into place

I’m de facto on the Rovers side of the city in that as a kid I went to Ashton Gate as an away fan (for palace, long story) so up the gas!!! And, with CU having had the luck to play you in that very shortlived spell at the start of the season when we didn’t suck, it was a win apiece last year so we’re all good, right?

Hope your women’s team keeps going from strength to strength, you’re a way ahead of CU’s.

Have you seen Josh Keeley's goal for orient?! Love a goalie goal and he seems to be doing well for them (although hopefully not on Tuesday when they play the gas lol)
