@boundedhec ♥‘d for a starter !!
Kotarō had gone out to hunt on his own, moving quietly as the sun began to rise. He’d walked for a while before settling at the riverbank, deciding on a good place to go fishing. The water was shallow here, just beyond the forest border, an easy place to catch fish swimming upstream. It would make for an easy meal, and good training as well.
Kotarō rolled up the hem of his pants, removed his shoes and stepped into the water. He stood still for a long while, watching the fish move around him, coming to rest, determining that he must not be a threat. And as soon as one was close enough, he steadily aimed his kunai and plunged it down. He stabbed through the fish’s belly and flicked the body onto the riverbank where it fell limp. He caught one more before heading back out of the water.
He was just beginning to start a fire to cook his catch when he heard movement from within the trees. Kotarō as on his feet in seconds, knife drawn, eyes scanning the brush from beneath the red fringe of his hair. When no one emerged, he pursed his lips. The movement, footsteps, had sounded distinctly human. He’d been sure he hadn’t been followed here and if they had wanted to attack him, they were doing a poor job of concealing their presence. He could always flee, if this stranger proved to be a threat. Once he was up in the tree branches, they’d likely never be able to catch him. But for now, he determined to call out.
“Show yourself or begone.”
