A rich and creamy holiday classic, homemade egg nog is perfect for festive gatherings or cozy nights by the fire. Customize with your choice of rum or bourbon for an extra kick.
Ingredients: 4 eggs. 1/3 cup granulated sugar. 2 cups whole milk. 1 cup heavy cream. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg. 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon. 1/4 cup rum or bourbon optional.
Instructions: Take egg whites away from egg yolks. Mix sugar and egg yolks in a bowl until the mixture is smooth and pale yellow. Warm up the milk, cream, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a saucepan until they are almost boiling. Pour the hot milk mixture into the egg yolks slowly while whisking all the time. Put the mixture back in the saucepan and stir it constantly over low heat until it gets a little thicker. Don't boil. Take it off the heat and let it cool down. You can add rum or bourbon if you want to. Beat the egg whites in a different bowl until they form stiff peaks. Fold the egg whites into the mixture slowly as it cools. Put it in the fridge for at least two hours before you serve it. Add a sprinkle of nutmeg or cinnamon on top and serve cold.
