There was something off the whole evening. “The Rules” stayed the rules, and there was never even a hint of intention to break them tonight. He never even got near his bed, no matter how hard she tried or how many layers of clothing she had thrown to the floor. He “had things to do”, though encouraged her to sleep, as if she hadn’t caught on to the abnormal behavior.
Regardless, even if her eyes hadn’t been keen on noticing the interruption to their routine, she could no longer properly sleep without Damon Salvatore next to her. There was no way to pinpoint the moment it happened. Everything just flowed together and before she knew it what she had dreaded and feared for so long finally became reality. A deadly secret she was determined to take to the grave. She loved him. She was in love with Damon Salvatore. And even more absurd...she believed Damon loved her too.
Gwen’s face fell, a deep setting panic rolling through her, when she heard the front door open then close. Immediately the brunette went to the window, seeing the familiar shadow, and just as quickly she slipped on her robe and ran through the mansion and out the front door.
She didn’t need him to tell her what he was doing, nor did she need to begin begging him to stay. You didn’t tell Damon Salvatore what to do. She had memorized that by now. But what she could do was provide him with the truth...and the truth was that. She would find him...she would chase after him and find him. She would bring him home and things would be as they were- because if Damon had learned anything, her words would ring true because you didn’t tell Gwen Adler what to do either.
His question causes the huntress’s throat to tighten, brown hues blinking back the heavy emotions trying to break through the surface. “You would find me,” Gwen replied slowly. It was all she could say right now. She didn’t know how to answer his question.
No. That was a lie. She was just too afraid to answer his question.
“I just,” Gwen began, her voice weak and afraid. “I just don’t want you to go. I just-” She glances down, wringing shaky hands together. “Let’s just go to bed okay? O-Or we can go to my hotel room. Let’s go there okay? We can break the rules...I’ll let you sleep there without any other motive. Your house is too eerily quiet tonight anyways. C’mon...go grab an overnight back and we can even have breakfast together in the morning. I’ll even get the coffee this time. You...you don’t have to go anywhere by yourself. You don’t have to leave.”
