August 8 is National Bowling Day. These photographs from the 1920s show Norfolk and Western employees bowling in Portsmouth, Ohio and Roanoke, Virginia. One Norfolk and Western Magazine reporter wrote in 1924 that interest in the game “is red-hot and every night a gang of rabid rooters are on hand” at the lanes.
