Boycott Kroger
I don’t really use this platform anymore but there’s just something I need to say. For the past four and a half years I’ve been working at a Kroger store in Lexington Kentucky. My fiancé has been at the same store for nine years. Kroger has never payed us well. They start their employees at $10 an hour. Every other grocery store in our area starts employees at, at least, $11 an hour. I work at customer service, so all day I am putting myself in danger of getting sick. My sister is a front end supervisor at our store. My fiancé works in our liquor store. We are all dealing with customers directly, and putting our lives on the line so, customers can get the help they need. Our state governor says we are essential, but apparently Kroger does not. Since March, we have had a $2 an hour increase on our checks that Kroger calls “hero pay”. It’s hazard pay, and for us it ends May 17th. Our union has already gotten Kroger to extend our hazard pay once, but the company refuses to do it again. Kroger also does not enforce any of our governors mandates to help keep employees safe. We don’t enforce one customer per household or require all customers to wear a mask. All employees are required to Wear masks and gloves. Kroger wants to keep the customers safe but not the employees. The only reason kroger wants the customers to stay safe, is So they can keep taking their money. In the end Kroger does not care about people, they care about money. So I ask you please, if you have the option to shop at Kroger stores or stores in the Kroger family (Frys, Ralphs, Food For Less, King Soopers, Fred Meyer, Dillons etc.) don’t. Boycott Kroger until they can treat employees the way we deserve to be treated. In times like these my family and my co workers deserve better.
