grier making a point when asked about naming mack captain next year that it's another conversation for another day (and a long ways away) but noted he was impressed with how mack has been handling some of the pressure he's been getting from the outside
will in macklin's ear. i said im so sure
we need to put the c on the child i've accepted it

i get what you're saying and largely agree. wanting him and the team to take things slowly is the most common line of thought i've seen about his inevitable captaincy and his role in the team/league that he's very quickly slipping into. but between the team's unexpected playoff contention and mack's own olympic selection and hart contention, he does not seem to agree. (though i'll add that i haven't seen anything in his behavior to suggest he's hungering for the captaincy asap. i could see why his camp would want it for him though. good for his image.)
yeah like we really haven't seen much that makes it seem like he's craving the captaincy now (how much of that has to do with already having an A...well idk). obviously we don't know what's happening in the locker room and if he's taking on like a leadership role there (and we'll probably never know). i think the one thing i always point to is that he's one of the last guys off the ice post any game which tends to be like considered a "captain" thing to do. he was also really thrown to the media in the early part of the season when they were losing for a bit there.
i mean that's the real part of the discussion too like can he take media the way a captain can, does he want to? does the sharks organization want that? i suppose we'll find out
mack would beat mcdavid's record as the youngest captain if they gave it to him after the olympic break. he would have to have it before march 6, i believe.
yeah. like to be clear i dont necessarily support the idea of captain mack at age nineteen (and new youngest captain of the nhl) at all. i think that young captains face a lot of potential challenges and their is that "social" aspect i know that one of the sharks announcers (dan boyle i think?) had mentioned that obviously mack cannot fill because he's nineteen.
but what chaos raised an excellent point of being able to use the "crowning" as a momentum builder coming off the olympics break. it was a little bit of "well if you're going to give him the c anyways do it now because it'll boost team morale" which i do respect and i do think there is a world where that conversation does exist. and would the conversation exist if the sharks were on the bottom of the standings and out of playoff contention? absolutely not and i do think that matters here a little more than even i want to admit
