Ok, did Braen spend any time in Desert Bluffs before the Strex takeover? Because I always had the impression he got there by being kidnapped.
//He had just come to town during the the last days of the fight.
He was out looking for a job when he arrived. He felt very uncomfortable there, though. Some people were smiling unnaturally. They weren’t warm and welcoming, they were cold and unsettling. He and Kevin had just become friends. Braen was talking about running, the battle was now a lost cause and there was no way he could figure something out to stop them in time. Kevin was trying to stay and fight still. But before either of them could do anything else, Strex found out about this new scientist and captured him and Kevin. They would need someone to keep control of people. This is when they forced him to create the StrexMeds or they would find, torture and murder his loved ones. Thinking of Cass, he had to create it. He wanted to talk to her, let her know he was “doing okay” he didn’t want her worried. But that didn’t happen. They forced him to do the first test on Kevin. After, they were just going to kill him off, but figured he could be valuable. He didn’t hesitate to take it after that, because how could he leave Kevin alone? How would he live with himself otherwise to see what he created? He took it knowing Cass would be safe. Knowing that Kevin didn’t need to suffer alone. Knowing that he would forget everything about his life. And that was the end of Braen and the beginning of Braen the Scientist and Smile Surgeon.
I hope this helps with some of the confusion? (Also his backstory just changed with a few minor details trying to line up with the story line)
