note: I refer to mark as mars because 1. Mars is the deity of war and I thought that fitted Mark’s character, or at least his abilities, and 2. Mars is the root of Mark. I could honestly go into a rant about the little details in the poems but idkkkkk anyway guess which one is my favorite
I know exactly jack shit about invincible, but id love to hear about the oc!
I have been released from my dungeon. Btw I’m so sorry for how long this took, I’ve gen been procrastinating on everything. It’s bad
@ketavinsky, braid mark is back in the building
anyway please bear with me, as this will be extremely chaotic and all over the place. I’m sorry tbf tho he literally came out of the oven a few days ago sooooo
p.s I refer to my Invincible variant oc as “Braid Mark.”
Basically he has long hair that grew really long, and he always leaves it in a braid. it also has a blade at the end. This blade has decorative engravings on it. I’m still trying to decide what kind of blade (stuck between karambit, stiletto, and kunai); also, he has a counterweight (heavy ring) where the hair meets the blade to generate momentum. For normal people it would be heavy to walk around with but, for context, he’s half-alien with super strength and speed. It weighs like a leaf to him. Also can you imagine how fast he could swing that thing? With his skill stats he could probably cleave a head clean off…
I was also thinking of having weave some artificial vines w silver thorns on them to deter people from grabbing his braid, but tbh he’d probably cut himself a lot, so maybe near the end? Let’s be honest tho, that’s probably not gonna do a lot… maybe. I mean his opponents could also risk getting cut by those thorns so…??? I mean is having a long ass braid logical? No. But idgaf, I think it’s cool
As for his suit, I still haven’t decided on the exact design, but I’m thinking a black or dark gray base with muted red accents. Or maybe a muted red base with black accents. He has burgundy eyeliner on the bottom lash too. He would’ve loved to not wear a mask but then people would be able to recognize him when he’s not on the job (and he didn’t want that), so he decided to wear the typical mainstream mask but without goggles/lenses.
anyway onto his personality and stuff
Braid mark is a rather dense version of main mark. After losing Debbie and William to Nolan, Mark is left in shambles. He’s quite private and appears calm (even though a lot of the time he isn’t). He’ll keep up this persona of “unshakable, calm person” as a defense mechanism but the moment he’s pushed to the brink, he’s very open with his emotions (basically he crashes out). Overall, I’d describe him as unpredictable; you never quite know if he’ll snap or remain unaffected. Admittedly, this mark does have his moments of sarcasm/dry humor, tho it’s few and far between. And now that I think about it, braid mark’s character is literally just a guy constantly warring with his emotions and his logic
Mark got his powers early, around 10 years old. I like to think Nolan’s heart has softened and he couldn’t really bring himself to try indoctrinating Mark. So for a long time, mark thought he had the best dad on earth. Until the incident ofc. But also Nolan did start training him a lot the moment he got powers, so I imagine braid mark was forced to mature (or act mature) a lot earlier than main
so on one hand, he kinda feels whiplash because his dad was so loving before he tried taking over earth, but on the other hand, Nolan literally murdered his mom and childhood best friend. So in a nutshell, mark swings between hatred and missing the version of his father he thought he knew. And yes, mark did end up fighting his father; since mark got his powers early, I imagine he was able to surpass Nolan by the time they end up fighting, or at least be at his level, which is how he managed to kill Nolan.
he likes to “talk” to Debbie, even though she’s dead. It’s definitely a coping mechanism he eases into between missions; it’s not necessarily that he’s actually having a hallucination, but more of a very vivid imagination of having a convo w Debbie. When he’s alone he likes to let himself talk out loud. It’s kind of ironic because he prefers to avoid any reminders of his mother, but pretending to talk to her brings a lot of comfort
The betrayal event with his father also led Mark into training himself to be very perceptive of people, down to the tiniest detail. He’s honestly pretty paranoid and has a lot of trust issues and shit. Despite being rather emotional, he’s also pretty analytical and prefers to strategize then rely on brute strength, unless things get really dire. And unlike main mark, braid mark is also willing to compromise his moral compass to get things done (or have things go his way).
anyway fast forward; Mark ends up joining Angstrom’s army thing to get Debbie back, since in Main Mark’s universe she’s still alive. But there’s also a darker reason he agreed to it (which he doesn’t like to acknowledge) and that’s the fact that he’s extremely envious and angry that main mark had Debbie and William and was able to make up with Nolan, so he decided to just try and ruin everything for main mark simply because he was consumed by grief and envy. Ironically I don’t think braid mark necessarily hates main mark as a person, because with braid mark being analytical I do think he acknowledges mark is under the mercy of fate; he’s just jealous of the circumstances and decides to let his jealousy guide him.
Also I have an idea that braid mark didn’t date Amber or eve; instead, Amber and Eve dated each other (which also resulted in a break up), and Mark had more of a QPR with Eve. William was still his best friend but he ended up dying due to uh… Nolan.
anyway there’s a lot more history and shit but idrk how to put it all down yet, so that’s another post for a different time. Sorry for how shitty this is; for some reason my brain couldn’t work on this
