It’s great timing. I got to meet a new neurologist at Kadlec in Richland, WA, as I was filling in paperwork the nurse was asking me questions about my family medical history. Afterwards the neurologist came into the room and asked me to sit on the examination bed. She instructed me to take my shoes and socks off. I do what I’m told then the neurologist told me to follow her finger with my eyes as she moved her finger side to side then up and down.
She then grabbed a tool and banged it on her palm. I could hear it vibrate. She placed it on my right foot and asked if I could feel it. I told her yes, she proceeded with my left foot and asked me again. I told her I could feel it too but not as much as my right foot. She took a seat as she looked through my chart and I decided to tell her about what occurred yesterday. Perhaps having a mini stroke or seizure and confusion afterwards.
My mother looked at me worriedly and asked why I didn’t tell her.
“I didn’t know what happened, I was confused,” I told her crying. She stood up and walked up to me, wrapping her arms around me.
“From what you have said, it sounds like you had a seizure. With so much damage tissue, it’s possible you had a small seizure,” the neurologist said.
“I have to report this and I am afraid to say that you cannot drive for 6 months. It’s for the safety of you and others. I am also going to prescribe an anti-seizure medication. Some anti-seizure side-effects are weight loss and there’s bearly any weight on you so I think Keppra would be best for you,” Dr. Raghunath said.
“I remember that name,” I said.
“So you’re familiar with it? I am also going to schedule you for an EEG,” She said.
“As I am looking through your scans, I see something concerning on the base of your skull,” She continued.
“What do you mean?” My mother asked worried.
“The bone looks concerning. I am going to send the scans to OHSU neurosurgeon to see if they would think surgery is necessary,” Dr. Raghunath explained.
“This is the recent scans? How come no we are just now hearing about it?” My mother asked concerned and furious.
“I have no idea,” the neurologist replied.
“I will want to see you after the EEG to talk to you about the results,” Dr. Raghunath said.
